🎶 Billie Eilish's 'No Time to Die' Breaks Records and Wins Oscars

Billie Eilish made history with "No Time to Die," the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name. Co-written by Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell, the song features orchestration by Hans Zimmer and was produced by Finneas and Stephen Lipson. Released on February 13, 2020, through Darkroom and Interscope Records, Eilish became the youngest artist to record a Bond theme at 17.

Chart-Topping Success "No Time to Die" debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and the Irish Singles Chart, marking Eilish's first number-one single in the UK and making her the first artist born in the 21st century to top the UK chart. It is only the second Bond theme to achieve this feat. In the US, the song debuted and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Award-Winning Achievement The song received numerous accolades, including the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song, and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Eilish became the first person born in the 21st century to win an Academy Award. This win also marked the third consecutive Bond theme to win the Oscar, following Adele's "Skyfall" and Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall."

Background and Production In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Eilish shared that she and Finneas often created their own imagined Bond themes long before they were approached to compose the actual theme. Their opportunity arose after meeting Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who invited them to work on the song after an Electric Picnic concert in Ireland.

Initially, the siblings faced writer's block, but inspiration struck when Finneas discovered a piano in a Texas arena green room, leading to the creation of the song's opening riff. They recorded a demo in October 2019 on their tour bus, which was later sent to Hans Zimmer's office in Los Angeles. Zimmer preferred their demo over other prospects.

Eilish and Finneas then traveled to London to collaborate with Zimmer, recording the song with a 70-person orchestra at George Martin's AIR Studios. Guitarist Johnny Marr, part of Zimmer's movie score, contributed to the song, emphasizing musical simplicity to match Eilish's typical style. After viewing a rough cut of the film, Eilish added a powerful climactic vocal to the song.

"No Time to Die," released in 2021, is the twenty-fifth installment in the James Bond series by Eon Productions. This film marks Daniel Craig's fifth and final performance as the iconic British MI6 agent, James Bond. The story follows Bond, who has retired from active service, as he is drawn back into action by the CIA to rescue a kidnapped scientist, leading to a confrontation with a dangerous adversary wielding a lethal technology.
