🏃♂️ Lake County Fairgrounds to Host First Annual Treasurer Zuren’s 5K for Charity
The Lake County Fairgrounds is gearing up for the inaugural Treasurer Michael Zuren’s 5K for Charity, scheduled to take place on April 14. This exciting event is not just a race; it's a community gathering with a cause. GCXC Lake County will expertly manage and time the 5K, ensuring a professional and enjoyable experience for all participants.
In collaboration with the Lake County United Way, the organizers are going above and beyond to make this event memorable. They are adding a variety of activities, including a fun-packed 1-mile run/walk for families and kids, and an innovative online raffle basket. These additions are not just for fun; they're also part of a larger fundraising effort.
Participants in the 5K will not only enjoy the race but will also receive commemorative shirts and finisher medals. In a welcoming gesture, dogs are invited to join in the fun, making it a true family event.
Registration for the 5K is open and can be accessed through the Greater Cleveland XC website at www.gcxcracing.com. The proceeds from the event, after covering expenses, will be donated to the Lake County United Way, highlighting the charitable spirit of the event.
The search for sponsors is still on, with the goal of securing at least eight sponsors, each contributing $1000. These sponsors will receive notable recognition across various platforms, including the event's website, social media, flyers, and even on the race shirt.
For those interested in supporting this cause, either through sponsorship or by donating a raffle basket, Michael Zuren is the point of contact and can be reached at 440-251-5381. This event promises to be more than just a race; it's an opportunity for the community to come together, have fun, and support a great cause.

🏈 Cleveland's Comeback Story Cut Short in Playoff Loss to Texans
The Cleveland Browns' season concluded with a disappointing playoff loss to the Houston Texans, their first postseason appearance since 2020. Struggling on both offense and defense, the Browns allowed the Texans to dominate, leading to a 45-14 defeat. The Browns' defense faced significant challenges, giving up three touchdowns in the first half, including a 76-yard touchdown run. Offensively, despite RB Kareem Hunt scoring two touchdowns in the first half, QB Joe Flacco's interceptions in the third quarter were detrimental, with one leading to an 82-yard return touchdown. The Texans solidified their victory with RB Devin Singletary's 19-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Notable individual performances included Kareem Hunt's contributions in rushing and receiving, and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's eight tackles and four tackles for loss. The Browns, having faced injuries and adversities throughout the season, finished with an 11-6 record but will now focus on learning and preparing for the 2024 season after this playoff defeat.

🏀 Cardinals' Early Lead and Strong Defense Clinch Win Against Shaker Heights
The Mentor Cardinals have maintained their winning momentum with a decisive 87-63 victory over Shaker Heights. Since returning from the Arby’s Classic in Tennessee, the Cardinals have been consistently quick to establish early leads in their games. This trend continued against Shaker Heights, as Mentor surged to a commanding 38-11 lead in the first quarter. Key players Ian Ioppolo and Matthew Biddell played pivotal roles, scoring 29 and 20 points respectively, with their combined efforts contributing to 23 points in the first quarter alone. Junior Kobe Frasure-Azzano also made a notable impact with six points and six boards to match.
Despite cooling off in the second quarter, Mentor still led comfortably at 59-30 by halftime. The team's lead peaked at 37 points in the third quarter, allowing the starters to rest before the quarter ended. Shaker Heights, a younger team with a new lineup, saw Jerith Eaddy and Casey Robinson lead their scoring with 13 points each.
The Cardinals' effectiveness will soon be tested when they face 3 very tough teams in five days.
