👮 Lake County Deputies Engage in Slow Chase After Wheel Loader Theft

In an unusual turn of events, Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies engaged in a low-speed pursuit on Saturday morning, following the theft of a wheel loader. The incident began when a man was seen entering the Lake County Engineer’s Office near the salt dome on Blackbrook Road around 5:15 a.m. He subsequently made off with a Case 721D wheel loader, leading deputies on a chase along Lakeshore Boulevard.

The pursuit was notably slow, never exceeding 10 miles per hour. Despite attempts to stop the suspect, including the use of a tire deflation device that proved ineffective against the loader's thick tires, the chase continued. The pursuit eventually ended near an elementary school, roughly three and a half miles from where it began, with the 54-year-old suspect being apprehended.

He was taken to Lake County Jail, with an arraignment pending. The purpose for which the suspect intended to use the wheel loader remains unclear.
