I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

⛵ Mentor Eyes Changes to Lagoons Marina Boat Launch and Parking

Changes could eventually be coming to the Mentor Lagoons Marina, where city officials want to take a closer look at traffic flow, parking and the future of the public boat launch.

At its October 20 meeting, Mentor City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing an application for a $60,000 state grant toward a proposed $120,000 marina master plan.

The study would examine three areas: how vehicles move through the marina, where additional parking might be possible, and whether the existing public boat launch should be improved, relocated or addressed another way.

For boaters and other marina visitors, those questions could eventually influence how easily they enter, park and navigate the facility.

The proposed plan would go beyond a basic review. City officials said it would also produce specifications and drawings that could help guide a future phase of improvements, if warranted.

But nothing is changing yet. No boat launch relocation, parking expansion or construction has been approved. Council's action authorizes a grant application, not physical improvements.

The marina study is also separate from the city's ongoing shoreline protection planning at the adjacent nature preserve.

What happens next? The city must pursue the grant funding and complete the planning process before deciding whether to advance specific improvements. No construction timetable was announced.

➡️ Which improvements are being considered, what would the $120,000 study actually deliver, and what does this mean for boaters? We break down the proposal, funding and unanswered questions on our website.

🛣️ Mentor Clears Next Step for $4.5M Route 2 Resurfacing

Another major improvement is planned for Route 2 through Mentor, but drivers will have to wait until 2028 for the expected pavement work.

Mentor City Council unanimously approved Ordinance 26-095 on October 20, authorizing the city manager to enter project agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation for an approximately $4.5 million resurfacing project.

The work would extend from just east of Route 306 to just east of Munson Road. City officials described the project as fully funded through the state, with no Mentor construction contribution identified.

The approval moves the project forward, but construction has not begun. An exact starting month, completion date and possible lane restrictions have not been announced.

The resurfacing is separate from the recently approved $2 million Route 2 lighting initiative, which Mentor Local Buzz reported on last week.

Interestingly, regional transportation records show the resurfacing has been planned for years, with its estimated cost and construction funding year changing along the way.

➡️ What's changed in the project plans, who's paying, and when could drivers face delays? Our full report explains the funding history, connects our earlier Route 2 coverage and identifies what motorists still need to know.

🏠 THE REAL ESTATE QUESTION: You Have the Keys. Do You Have Control of the House?

Smart locks, cameras and thermostats add a new question to homeownership: what must change hands besides the equipment?

Imagine the first evening in your new home. Boxes line the hallway. The keys are on the counter. You reach for your phone to adjust the thermostat—and realize the house is still connected to someone else’s account.

The equipment changed hands. Its digital controls need a handoff of their own.

That is an increasingly useful question to bring to a home showing: When the seller leaves, what will it take to make the connected features yours to operate?

A demonstration shows what works for the current owner. It does not explain which devices stay, whether a small hub powers the arrangement, or which conveniences depend on services the seller pays for.

Start with three questions.

What stays with the house? Ask about the supporting pieces, too: hubs, remotes, keys and setup information. A device on the wall may be only part of the system.

What will you need to establish yourself? Identify the apps, owner accounts, internet connection and any subscriptions required for the features you expect to use. Also ask how essential functions operate before your internet service is ready.

How will the seller’s access end? Follow each manufacturer’s process rather than assuming that deleting an app completes the transfer. Ring, for example, says removing its app does not release device ownership; transferring a device also does not cancel its subscription. ring.com

For sellers, a clear equipment list and an orderly handoff can spare the next household an avoidable puzzle. For buyers, the useful test is whether you can operate the included systems independently, manage access and understand any continuing costs.

You do not need to become a technology expert before moving. You need to know which questions belong beside the familiar ones about keys, remotes and manuals.

A house begins to feel like yours when its everyday routines are yours to manage.

➡️ Before the seller’s phone leaves with the moving truck, know what needs to change hands. Our complete feature includes a 12-step Connected Home Handoff Checklist—from the showing to your first evening in the house.

🏈 Browns Do It Again! Last-Second Kick Beats Titans

Watson delivers another clutch drive as Cleveland stays atop the AFC North

The Cleveland Browns are making last-second victories a habit. For the second straight Sunday, Andre Szmyt kicked the winner as time expired, this time from 32 yards in Cleveland’s thrilling 27–24 victory over Tennessee in Nashville.

Cleveland (5–2) has won five of its last six games and remains atop the AFC North. Szmyt now has three walk-off field goals this season.

After falling behind 14–0, the Browns rallied behind two first-half touchdown runs by Quinshon Judkins to take a 17–14 halftime lead.

Deshaun Watson threw for 308 yards — his first 300-yard game with Cleveland — and scored on a 9-yard run to put the Browns ahead 24–17 in the fourth quarter.

Tennessee tied it with 58 seconds remaining, but Watson connected with Harold Fannin Jr. for 36 yards on the ensuing drive, setting up Szmyt’s winner after an earlier missed 43-yard attempt.

Rookie KC Concepcion caught eight passes for 129 yards, while Judkins finished with 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Up next: Cleveland visits Pittsburgh on Sunday, November 1, for a crucial AFC North showdown.
