Crossroads Health is gearing up for its second biennial fundraiser, Soaring Hearts, scheduled for May 18, 2024, at Headlands Beach State Park. This community event, running from 12 noon to 4 PM, aims to set a new record by flying over 2,000 kites simultaneously, surpassing the previous event's achievement.
Event Highlights and Ticket Information
Soaring Hearts is not just about setting records but also about community engagement and support. The event is open to the public with three different ticket options to accommodate everyone:
Free Admission provides general access to the festivities.
For a $25 donation, the Supporter Admission includes a special edition Soaring Hearts shirt, VIP parking, and entry.
The 50/50 Raffle ticket. Add on individual or raffle bundle tickets to your admission ticket for a chance to win half of the entire prize pot!
Activities and Amenities
Participants can look forward to a vibrant day filled with kite flying, local food trucks, entertainment, and local vendor stalls. The event promises fun for all ages and stages of life, encouraging participants to bring their own kites, although a limited number of special Crossroads Health kites will also be available for purchase. Children under 10 will receive a free participant bracelet, and additional merchandise is available while supplies last.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Crossroads Health’s mission to support the most vulnerable members of the community, emphasizing the importance of public participation.

📰 Mentor Welcomes New Coffee Hub as “The Human Bean” Expands in Ohio

The Human Bean, a popular drive-thru coffee chain, is celebrating the grand opening of its latest location in Mentor, Ohio. Starting May 8, the baristas will serve specialty-grade coffee, real-fruit smoothies, whole-leaf teas, and hot breakfast items to customers driving through at 8764 Mentor Ave.
Welcoming the Community
Peter Patel, the local owner of the new branch, emphasized that his team is eager to provide outstanding customer service along with their high-quality drinks. Each beverage comes with a signature chocolate-covered espresso bean on top. "Our team is excited and ready to share the energy here with the friendly faces who visit us," he said.
The Human Bean’s Journey and Values
Founded in Oregon 25 years ago, The Human Bean has expanded across the nation through individual franchisees like Patel who aim to deliver "coffee with a smile." Known for their cheerful baristas and ethically-sourced coffee, the brand now boasts over 260 locations across 22 states. Dan Hawkins, CEO of The Human Bean, says that the name reflects their commitment to community and customer service.
Supporting Local Causes
The new Mentor location will participate in brand-wide fundraising events like Coffee for a Cure in October, which raises money for cancer prevention and treatment. Patel assures that all funds raised by the Mentor drive-thru will remain in the local community, supporting organizations chosen by his team.

🏈 Kirtland Hornets Girls Seize NEO Flag Football Championship
The Kirtland Hornets showcased their enduring prowess in flag football by securing another championship win at the NEO league, their third in four years. They defeated Berkshire by a score of 6-0 on May 6 at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The event not only highlighted individual talents like Kristiana Katic and Sana Hicks but also the expanding community and support for girls' flag football in the region. The game was a testament to the strategic depth and passionate play that defines the league.
⚾ Lake Catholic Cougars Extend Winning Streak with 4-2 Win Over Brush
The Lake Catholic boys varsity baseball team continued their winning streak by defeating Brush 4-2 on Monday, after their recent doubleheader sweep over South. The Cougars took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another two in the third, establishing a 4-0 lead. Brush managed a comeback with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough to overtake Lake Catholic. This victory brings the Cougars to an overall record of 11-10 (2-4 in conference), while Brush now stands at 9-9.
🥍 Mentor Cardinals Clinch Overtime Lacrosse Win Over GlenOak 11-10
The Mentor Cardinals boys varsity lacrosse team secured an intense overtime victory against the GlenOak Golden Eagles, winning 11-10 on Tuesday. The Cardinals were highly efficient, netting 11 goals from 14 shots on target. Standout players included Henry Schenk, who notched 3 goals and 1 assist; Carter Collins, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists; and Ben Schenk, who led with 4 goals.
Goaltending was shared between CJ Lobue and Vinnie Demichele. Lobue saved 6 of 9 shots faced, securing the win, while Demichele played the majority of the game, facing 13 shots and allowing 7 goals. This victory improves Mentor’s record to 7-8 while GlenOak's falls to 8-9.
