🦃 Wild Turkey Hunts for Disabled Hunters Yield Success in Ohio Forests
Pike State Forest and Blue Rock State Forest recently hosted special hunts for hunters with disabilities, organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry. These events, designed to allow participants to enjoy the outdoors while hunting wild turkey, took place in April 2024.
At Pike State Forest, the Thunder in the Hills wild turkey hunt celebrated its seventh year, with 15 hunters participating and four turkeys successfully taken. The event was a collaborative effort, supported by the Clinton County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), the ODNR Divisions of Wildlife, Parks and Watercraft, and around 50 other organizations.
Meanwhile, Blue Rock State Forest hosted the 17th annual Wheelin’ Sportsmen hunt, sponsored by the NWTF Wheelin’ Sportsmen program. Twenty-three hunters participated in this event, resulting in two turkeys being taken. Over 60 guides assisted in making the hunt a success.
More information about such events and Ohio’s woodlands can be found on ODNR's forestry webpage and their social media channels.
