🪁 Colorful Kites Fill the Skies at Soaring Hearts Fundraiser in Mentor
What a beautiful day…
On May 18, Headlands Beach State Park transformed into a vibrant spectacle as colorful kites of various shapes and sizes filled the blue skies. The beach was bustling with kite fliers of all ages and skill levels, as well as numerous spectators.
The event, known as the Soaring Hearts biennial fundraiser, was organized by Mentor-based Crossroads Health, a non-profit dedicated to providing recovery and mental health services. This festive gathering was both a celebration and a beach party, aiming to set a new record by flying over 2,000 kites simultaneously.
In addition to the kites soaring high above Lake Erie, attendees enjoyed a variety of activities including food trucks, beach karaoke, games, and music from a DJ. The nearly perfect weather, with just the right amount of wind, ensured that the kites could take flight smoothly, creating a picturesque scene over Mentor.
📰 Motorcyclist Dies in Painesville Crash: Investigation Ongoing
A motorcyclist has tragically died following an accident in Painesville on the evening of May 18. According to the Painesville Police Department, officers and the Painesville City Fire Department responded to a call about a motorcycle crash near the intersection of West Jackson Street and Shamrock Boulevard at 8:21 p.m.
Upon arrival, authorities found the motorcycle off the road and the rider with severe injuries. The man was declared dead at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office and the Lake County Crash Reconstruction Unit were called in to assist with the investigation, while the Grand River Police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office managed road closures in the area.
The Painesville Police Chaplain provided support to the family members of the deceased at the scene. The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Painesville Police Department at 440-392-5840.

🚘 Mentor-on-the-Lake Trunk Sale: Register Now for June 8th Event
The city of Mentor-on-the-Lake is hosting a trunk sale on June 8th, from 9 AM to 3 PM, at the City Hall parking lot. Residents interested in participating need to submit a registration form along with a $5 fee. Forms can be returned in person or by mail to City Hall. The deadline for submissions is June 4th.

The Mentor City Council meeting originally set for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 7:00 PM has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 5:30 PM. For more details, visit the City Council page.
📰 American White Pelicans Delight Locals Before Northern Migration
American White Pelicans have delighted locals by staying for the fifth consecutive day. Soon, these majestic birds will continue their migration north to the Prairie Potholes region of the US and Canada. Jenn Pietrondi captured some amazing photos of the pelicans. In one particularly striking image, the outline of a fish can be seen inside a pelican's beak!

⚾ Brennan's Ninth-Inning Homer Seals Guardians' Sweep Over Twins
Will Brennan's three-run homer in the ninth inning clinched a 5-2 win for the Cleveland Guardians over the Minnesota Twins, completing a series sweep. The game saw dramatic moments, including a reversed call on a video review that kept the Guardians' inning alive. Minnesota tied the game in the ninth without a hit, but Cleveland responded with Brennan's game-winning home run. The Twins have now lost six straight games.
