📰 Lake County to Benefit from $2.3 Million I-90 Safety Enhancement

Governor Mike DeWine has announced substantial grant funding aimed at improving traffic safety across Ohio, with specific attention to five projects in Northeast Ohio. On Thursday, his office confirmed the allocation of nearly $87 million for these statewide initiatives.
One significant project close to home includes a $2,317,363 investment to extend the variable speed limit zone on I-90's "Lake Effect Corridor" in Lake County. This extension will cover an additional six miles west of the State Route 306 interchange. The state highlights that this area, which experiences significantly higher snowfall than other parts of Northeast Ohio, has already seen a 35% reduction in crashes where the variable speed limit zone is in effect.
The planned project is expected to be completed by 2026 and aims to enhance safety in one of the region's most hazardous driving areas due to frequent heavy snowfall.
