👨👩👧👦 Cleveland Family Receives New Car Amid Heart Transplant Wait for Young Son
Rayshaun and Michelle Evans are facing an anxious wait for a heart transplant for their 1-year-old son, Shaun, who has an enlarged heart. Despite their challenges, a recent act of kindness has brought them some relief.
On Thursday, outside Nationwide Children's Hospital, the Evans family received the keys to a new Subaru Forester. Their previous car was totaled in a crash a few weeks ago, forcing Michelle to rely on Uber for transportation to her new job.
The Evans’ ordeal began when Shaun, at just 6 months old, started falling ill frequently. Multiple visits to the emergency room and several doctor appointments led to the diagnosis of an enlarged heart, indicating heart failure. This prompted the family to move from Cleveland to Columbus stay at a Ronald McDonald House near Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where Shaun is receiving treatment.
The car donation came from Byer's Automotive, which stepped in to help after hearing about the family's situation. This gesture has brought immense relief to Rayshaun and Michelle, who expressed their deep gratitude.
The family remains hopeful and looks forward to the day when Shaun gets his new heart and they can return home.

⏰ Mentor Police Encourage Residents to Adopt 9 PM Routine for Home Security
The 9 PM Routine is a simple yet effective practice aimed at promoting safety and security for Mentor residents. Although Mentor is a relatively safe community, theft can occur anywhere at any time. The Mentor Police Department encourages residents to adopt this nightly routine to protect themselves and their property.
Steps for the 9 PM Routine:
Lock Your Doors: Ensure all exterior doors, including the front door, back door, and garage door, are securely locked. This step helps prevent unauthorized entry into your home.
Close Your Garage: Before bedtime, make sure your garage is closed. An open garage can invite theft or unwanted access.
Secure Valuables in Your Car: Remove valuable items from your car and lock it. Avoid leaving purses, electronics, or other valuables visible through the windows. In 2023, the Mentor Police Department responded to 45 theft-from-vehicle incidents, most involving unlocked vehicles.
Turn On Exterior Lights: Light up the outside of your home by turning on porch lights, pathway lights, or any other outdoor lighting. Well-lit areas deter potential intruders.
Activate Alarms and Security Systems: If you have a home security system, ensure it is armed. Activate alarms, motion sensors, and other security features. Consider investing in a video surveillance system with motion-activated cameras that save video directly to the cloud. Several affordable options are available on the market.
Thieves often target easy opportunities. By incorporating these simple steps into your nightly routine, you can significantly enhance the security of your home and reduce the risk of preventable crime. This initiative is one of many programs supported by the Mentor Police Department to safeguard residents and businesses.

⚾ Cleveland Extends Home Winning Streak with Victory Over Nationals
Tanner Bibee carried a shutout into the seventh inning and David Fry’s three-run homer in the bottom of the inning secured a 7-1 victory for the Cleveland Guardians over the Washington Nationals on Friday night.
Bibee (4-1) was dominant, allowing just one run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings, with seven strikeouts and one walk. He was relieved after Eddie Rosario’s RBI double brought the Nationals within one run at 2-1. Bibee has been outstanding in his recent outings, posting a 1.82 ERA over his last five starts.
Manager Stephen Vogt praised Bibee’s performance, stating, “He was phenomenal. He just bears down, and he really had a top rail today. He was just so much fun to watch."
David Fry’s three-run homer in the seventh inning off Robert Garcia extended the Guardians' lead to 6-1. Fry, who debuted last season and was uncertain to make the team in spring training, has proven his worth with a .352 batting average in 40 games. Fry expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I’m just trying to be prepared and be a pro every day and earn some at-bats. Luckily, Vogter has been fighting for me, putting me in the lineup and all I can say is I’m thankful for that.”
Steven Kwan, recently activated from the injured list, had a notable game with three hits, two runs scored, and a walk, raising his batting average to .365 through 33 games. Despite striking out in his first at-bat, ending a streak of 74 plate appearances without a strikeout, Kwan contributed an RBI single in the eighth inning.
