🎥 Community Buzz: Is the New Superman Movie Filming in Mentor?

Residents of Mentor have been curious about the military-like tents set up at Headlands Beach State Park, with some initially speculating about a possible military exercise. However, a public notice from the Coast Guard clarified that the tents are part of a motion picture production.
News 5 reached out to the Greater Cleveland Film Commission to inquire about the film being shot at the state park, but the commission, bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), couldn't reveal details. This lack of information has fueled community speculation, especially on social media.
“I saw the pictures on Facebook, and someone suggested it was probably for Superman,” said Sharon Ritacco, another Mentor resident. Excited by the prospect, Ritacco brought her grandson Edison to Headlands Beach to witness the activity.
Earlier reports indicated that the new Superman movie would be filmed in Cleveland and Cincinnati from June 17 to July 16, enhancing the local buzz about the film possibly being shot at Headlands Beach. Residents are eager to see the Man of Steel return to his symbolic hometown.
Bill Garvey, president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, highlighted the region's growing prominence in the film industry. Cleveland's film production tax incentive has increased from $40 million to $75 million, aiming to attract more productions. Garvey noted, “Everybody knows about one particular high profile and big budget movie that’s coming. It’s very exciting that it’s coming home. This year, the film commission was more successful than ever at booking new business. We’ve had $147 million of total production budget booked to come and film in Northeast Ohio.”
Garvey emphasized the economic benefits, stating, “That’s money being spent here, that’s jobs being created here and that’s a spotlight shining on the city as a place to do business.” The influx of film projects is set to boost the local economy and bring continuous excitement to the area.

⚾ Nationals Avoid Sweep as Guardians Fall Short at Home
The Cleveland Guardians couldn't secure a series sweep against the Washington Nationals, losing 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Field. Despite their impressive 20-6 home record and holding the second-best record in the American League behind the New York Yankees, the Guardians faltered in their final game against the Nationals.
Returning from the injured list on Friday, Steven Kwan showed promising form, earning playful praise from his teammates.
Game Highlights
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Gabriel Arias celebrated a double in the second inning against the Washington Nationals at Progressive Field.
In the ninth inning, the Guardians put a runner on base, but Kyle Manzardo's flyout to left field ended the game at 5-2 in favor of the Nationals.
Making his major league debut, Daniel Schneemann hit a two-run double on the first pitch he faced, reducing the Nationals' lead to 4-2. The Guardians' dugout erupted in celebration.
Nationals Starter - Jake Irvin pitched solidly, allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts over six innings.
Carlos Carrasco's Performance - Returning from the injured list, Carlos Carrasco struggled, conceding five earned runs on seven hits and one walk in just four innings. His ERA rose to 5.66. Carrasco, who earned his rotation spot partly due to Gavin Williams' injury, has faced challenges this season.
Emmanuel Clase's Performance - Clase continues to make a strong case for the All-Star team, being one of the top relievers in the American League.
Standings - The Guardians lead the American League Central, four games ahead of the Royals and six games ahead of the Twins.
Upcoming Schedule - The Guardians will have an off day on Monday before starting a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field.

🏘️ April Sees Continued Dip in Home Sales Despite Record Prices
Existing-home sales in April 2024 dropped 1.9 percent from March and the previous year. The median sale price hit a record $407,600. Inventory rose to a 3.5-month supply, still favoring sellers. High mortgage rates above 7 percent are hindering sales. First-time buyers increased to 33 percent. Regionally, the Northeast had the largest sales decline. Homes stayed on the market for 26 days. Prices have risen for ten months, with the highest median price in the West. Total inventory grew but remains constrained due to low locked-in mortgage rates.
The future of the housing market will depend on mortgage rates and the broader economic health. Current trends suggest prices may stabilize as more inventory becomes available, offering some relief to buyers.
