π«οΈ Air Quality Advisory Issued for Northeast Ohio Counties Through Tuesday
An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for several Northeast Ohio counties through Tuesday due to unhealthy air levels for sensitive groups. Residents are encouraged to reduce driving, avoid vehicle idling, refuel after sunset, and postpone lawn mowing. The advisory is caused by heat, humidity, pollen, and stagnant air.

π Funding Lapses for Popular FCC Internet Discount Program
Millions of Americans who have enjoyed discounted internet and phone services through the FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) will soon see those benefits come to an end. The program, which began in 2021, is running out of funding, and attempts to secure additional money have stalled in Congress.
The ACP has provided cheaper internet and phone services to eligible households β those with incomes below 200% of the poverty line or receiving government benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, or WIC. Over 23 million households were enrolled at its peak, receiving $30 subsidies on their bills, or $75 for those on tribal lands. However, these subsidies dropped to $14 and $35 in May.
As of June, the ACP funding has dried up, causing bills to revert to their pre-program amounts or potentially higher if providers have increased rates. Despite this, some companies like Verizon and AT&T have announced plans to continue offering affordable services.

βΎ Errors Costly for Kernels as Captains Cruise to Victory
The Lake County Captains secured a decisive 8-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday. Lake County started fast, scoring in the top of the first inning when Alex Mooney crossed home plate on a wild pitch, putting them ahead 1-0. Cedar Rapids quickly responded in the bottom of the second inning with a line drive double by Dillon Tatum, tying the game at 1-1.
The game took a turn in the third inning when Lake County capitalized on Cedar Rapids' defensive struggles, scoring four runs aided by multiple errors. Cedar Rapids committed a total of six errors throughout the game, which significantly contributed to Lake Countyβs scoring.
Lake County added a few more runs later in the game, bringing the final score to 8-1. Trenton Denholm earned the win for the Captains, pitching five innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits, with four strikeouts. Denholm's record for the season now stands at 6-1, with an ERA of 3.04.
With this victory, Lake County improved their record to 30-21, extending their lead to three games over the second-place Great Lakes squad.

ποΈ Top 8 Home Renovations to Maximize Your Property Value in 2024
With home prices at historic highs and mortgage rates elevated, many homeowners are opting to renovate their current properties rather than move. A survey by Discover Home Loans reveals that 55% of American homeowners prefer to upgrade their homes instead of relocating. Renovations not only enhance a home's appeal and functionality but can also significantly increase its value.
The "2024 Cost vs. Value Report" by Remodeling magazine identifies the top eight home improvement projects with the highest returns on investment (ROI), emphasizing exterior upgrades for their impact on curb appeal and resilience.
1. Garage Door Replacement
Average Cost: $4,513
Average Resale Value: $8,751
ROI: 193.9% A new garage door can nearly double its value in 2024, making it one of the best investments for homeowners.
2. Entry Door Replacement
Steel Door:
Average Cost: $2,355
Average Resale Value: $4,430
ROI: 188.1%
Fiberglass Grand Entrance:
Average Cost: $11,353

ROI: 97.4% Replacing the front door with a steel or fiberglass one significantly enhances energy efficiency and curb appeal.
3. Manufactured Stone Veneer

ROI: 153.2% Adding stone veneer to the exterior boosts elegance and recoups all costs and more.
4. Minor Kitchen Remodel (Midrange)
Average Cost: $27,492
Average Resale Value: $26,406
ROI: 96.1% Upgrading appliances, cabinets, and surfaces in the kitchen yields a high return, with minor remodels being more cost-effective than major overhauls.
Most homeowners finance renovations through savings, but options like home equity loans, HELOCs, and cash-out refinancing are available. These methods use the home's equity as collateral, often offering lower interest rates compared to unsecured loans.
Renovating a home in 2024 can be a wise investment, enhancing both enjoyment and property value. Projects that improve curb appeal and functionality offer the highest returns, making them strategic choices for homeowners looking to maximize their investment.
