🌊 PUBLIC SAFETY: High Rip Current Risk Issued for Lake and Ashtabula Counties

City of Mentor
The National Weather Service in Cleveland, Ohio, has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake and Ashtabula Lakeshore Counties. The statement, effective from 8 PM EDT yesterday evening until Saturday afternoon, warns of a high risk of rip currents.
Swimmers are advised to stay out of the water during this period due to the dangerous conditions. Wind and wave actions are expected to create currents that can pull swimmers away from the shore through sandbars and along structures that extend into the lake.
A rip current in a lake is a strong, narrow flow of water that moves directly away from the shore. Although rip currents are commonly associated with oceans, they can also occur in large lakes, especially those with substantial wind and wave activity.
Here’s how a rip current typically forms in a lake:
Wind and Wave Action: Persistent winds and waves push water toward the shore.
Water Accumulation: This water needs to return to the lake, creating areas of high water pressure near the shore.
Narrow Channels: The returning water finds a path of least resistance, often forming a narrow, fast-moving current that flows back into the lake.
Again, Swimmers are advised to stay out of the water during this period due to the dangerous conditions.

🎭 Footloose Brings Energetic Performances to Local Theater

Footloose - Willoughby Fine Arts Association
The stage adaptation of "Footloose," with book by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, based on Pitchford's original screenplay, is set to captivate audiences from June 7 to June 23, 2024. The musical features music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford, with additional music contributions from Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman.

Ren quickly discovers that the town, under the influence of Reverend Bomont, has banned dancing. Determined to challenge this rule, Ren, with the support of the Reverend's daughter, Ariel, and his new friend Willard, works to change the town's stance on dancing. 📰 Lake County Heroes Remembered on 80th Anniversary of D-Day
As I write this on Thursday, June 6, 2024, it has been exactly eighty years since the Normandy Invasion began to turn the tide of World War II in Europe. D-Day, June 6, 1944, claimed the lives of three young soldiers from Lake County. Pfc. Arthur Benjamin Congos, 25, from Fairport Harbor, was the youngest of six brothers. Joseph Louis Kessler, 22, from Leroy, was a Technician Grade Three, and Sgt. Dominic Angelo Tarasco, 23, from Wickliffe, hailed from a large Italian-American family and was married. All three were casualties of the harrowing invasion that played a crucial role in the Allied victory. Each was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
Pfc. John Lester O'Brien, 30, from Painesville, survived the invasion but died in France just seven weeks later. He was his parents' only son. Reflecting on their youthful faces highlights the depth of their sacrifice and the profound pain endured by their families. Today, we honor their memory and their ultimate sacrifice and say ‘Thank you’ from the heart.

🌯 Coco Locos: A Family Favorite in Willoughby for Mexican Cuisine
Coco Locos, a delightful Mexican restaurant with locations in Mentor and Willoughby, has quickly become a favorite spot for my family. My family frequents the Willoughby location of late due to our being in that vicinity. The vibrant atmosphere and delicious menu keep us coming back for more.
My daughter’s go-to dish is the Chicken Quesadillas. Each order includes two generously filled quesadillas, and she loves to pair them with a side of crispy fries. It’s a combination that never fails to satisfy her.
My wife and I have a particular fondness for burritos, and Coco Locos does not disappoint. My wife’s favorite is the Burrito Chipotle. This 12-inch flour tortilla is packed with her choice of chicken, rice, red peppers, and charro beans. It’s smothered in a creamy chipotle sauce and topped with roasted corn, creating a rich and flavorful experience that she absolutely adores.
As for me, I’m hooked on the California Burrito. Initially, I chose it on a whim, but it has since become my must-have item. The burrito features a 12-inch tortilla filled with my choice of steak, cooked with onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It’s topped with salsa, lettuce, sour cream, cheese dip, and pico de gallo. The combination of flavors is simply outstanding, earning it my highest praise.
Coco Loco has earned a special place in our hearts and stomachs. We look forward to many more meals at this wonderful local eatery.

Kansas City's bullpen pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings, aiding the win. The Royals moved within four games of the AL Central-leading Guardians.
Ramírez, leading the majors with 60 RBIs, continued his impressive performance with his eighth homer in 20 games. He also surpassed Manny Ramirez for eighth place in franchise history with 806 career RBIs.
