🎭 Footloose Brings Energetic Performances to Local Theater

Footloose - Willoughby Fine Arts Association
The stage adaptation of "Footloose," with book by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, based on Pitchford's original screenplay, is set to captivate audiences from June 7 to June 23, 2024. The musical features music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford, with additional music contributions from Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman.
Performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, with the exception of June 16, when there will be no show.
"Footloose" tells the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago who moves to the small town of Bomont with his mother after his father abandons them. Ren quickly discovers that the town, under the influence of Reverend Bomont, has banned dancing. Determined to challenge this rule, Ren, with the support of the Reverend's daughter, Ariel, and his new friend Willard, works to change the town's stance on dancing. In doing so, he helps the community heal from a past tragedy.

🦈 Affordable Fishing Adventures Await in Northeast Ohio’s Lakes and Reservoirs

Northeast Ohio's lakes and reservoirs are perfect for fishing enthusiasts seeking bass, crappie, sunfish, and catfish, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Summer offers an ideal time to grab a fishing pole and head to nearby waters.
Ohio boasts a wealth of public fishing spots, including Lake Erie, the Ohio River, numerous inland lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and miles of streams. With a resident one-year fishing license priced at just $25, fishing remains an affordable recreational activity. Youth under 16 can fish for free, and all Ohio residents can fish without a license on Free Fishing Days, June 15-16, though size and daily limits still apply.
Anglers can access a variety of resources through the Division of Wildlife, including lake maps, species-specific fishing tips, and forecasts. These resources are conveniently available via the HuntFish OH mobile app, which also provides fishing regulations and an interactive map. More information is available at wildohio.gov.
Fishing enthusiasts can aim for a Fish Ohio! qualifying trophy, with the program recognizing remarkable catches of 25 fish species. Qualifying catches earn a commemorative Fish Ohio pin, and anglers catching four different qualifying species in a year receive a Master Angler pin. This year's pin features a longear sunfish.
Here are some notable fishing spots in Northeast Ohio:
Largemouth Bass
Spencer Lake (Medina County) – Recently renovated, Spencer Lake offers excellent opportunities for catching 4- and 5-pound largemouth bass, especially by May. Split bag limits, in place since 2013, support the lake’s trophy bass potential. Anglers can keep three bass per day, with specific size restrictions. The lake features two fishing piers, abundant shoreline access, and two boat ramps.
Crappie
Clendening Lake (Harrison County) – Known for high crappie abundance and large sizes, Clendening Lake is a prime spot for crappie fishing. Recent assessments show that 60% of crappie are longer than 9 inches, with some exceeding 12 inches. The peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by a 10-horsepower motor limit.
Sunfish
Nimisila Lake (Summit County) – At the top of the Portage Lakes canal reservoir system, Nimisila Lake provides excellent shoreline angling access and opportunities to catch large bluegill, pumpkinseed, and redear sunfish. The clear, less vegetated waters make for enjoyable fishing, with yellow perch also being a common catch.
Flathead Catfish
Upper Ohio River (Columbiana and Jefferson counties) – The Ohio River offers chances to catch giant flathead catfish, particularly in areas with woody debris and deep water within the Pike Island and New Cumberland navigational pools. The daily limit is one fish longer than 35 inches, with no limit on smaller fish.
Muskellunge
Lake Milton (Mahoning County) – While West Branch Reservoir is noted for large muskellunge, Lake Milton is renowned for muskie abundance. Water releases from Berlin Lake dam create cool, flowing waters ideal for muskie fishing. This quality habitat often results in successful catches, especially around fallen trees.
