🚨 Disorder at Saint Gabriel’s Festival Leads to Early Shutdown and Arrests

The annual Saint Gabriel’s Parish Festival in Concord Township, Ohio, ended abruptly on Saturday night due to an increase in disorderly conduct, resulting in several arrests and an early shutdown. The Lake County Sheriffs Office reported that deputies on duty were overwhelmed by the unruly crowds, primarily consisting of juveniles and young adults. Assistance was requested from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mentor Police Department, Painesville Police Department, Kirtland Hills Police Department, and Lake Metroparks Rangers.

To prevent further escalation, the festival was closed early. The disruptive behavior continued into the surrounding neighborhoods, leading to four arrests. Among those arrested was an individual found in possession of a firearm. Additionally, one deputy sustained minor injuries while managing the situation.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office clarified that none of those arrested were parishioners of Saint Gabriel’s Parish or residents of Concord Township or Lake County. Despite the incidents, the festival was set to continue on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., albeit without rides. Enhanced security measures where set to be in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

Statement from Concord Township

📰 Lake County Proposes New Funding Formula to Reflect Population Shifts

Lake County is considering a new funding formula to better reflect population changes, increasing township funding while decreasing it for western cities. The proposed adjustments, developed by local officials, aim to address longstanding disparities and require approval from various municipalities to take effect. The county commissioners have already voted in favor of the proposal.

The new formula requires approval from the Lake County commissioners and Mentor, since Mentor is the county’s largest city. It also needs to be approved by councils or trustee boards in at least 12 of the county’s remaining 22 cities, villages or townships to take effect.

🏘️ Mortgage Rates Drop Below 7%: What to Expect Next Week

Mortgage rates have decreased, dipping below 7% after last week’s growth. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) fell from 7.03% on May 30 to 6.99% on June 6, according to Freddie Mac. This decline follows data indicating slower economic growth. Freddie Mac’s chief economist, Sam Khater, anticipates a modest decrease in rates for the remainder of 2024.

Mortgage rates fluctuated significantly in 2023, influenced by the Federal Reserve's measures against inflation and banking sector instability. Rates hit a low of 6.09% on February 2 and a high of 7.79% on October 26. The Federal Reserve’s actions, combined with economic uncertainties, suggest potential rate hikes to curb inflation.

Experts from CoreLogic, First American, CJ Patrick, and others predict mortgage rates will either decline, stabilize, or see minor fluctuations in June. Despite the volatility, many believe the peak rate cycle may have passed as the economy shows signs of slowing.

The Federal Reserve's adjustments, including skipped rate hikes and anticipated cuts, signal a gradual decline in mortgage rates throughout 2024. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 6.99% as of June 6. Projections for the second quarter of 2024 vary, with some forecasts as low as 6.68% and others as high as 7.10%.

After hitting a 23-year high in 2023, mortgage rates are expected to trend downward. Historically, the average rate dating back to April 1971 is around 7.8%, suggesting current rates are still favorable. Shopping around for the best rate remains crucial for potential buyers, given the rate variations among different lenders.

Different mortgage types offer various benefits. Jumbo loans suit high-priced homes for those with excellent credit, while VA loans provide ultra-low rates for eligible veterans and service members. Conforming and FHA loans offer low down payment options, and USDA loans are advantageous for rural property buyers.

In June 2024, mortgage shoppers should be prepared to act quickly due to ongoing market volatility. Being pre-approved and ready to close swiftly can give buyers a competitive edge. Shopping around for the best mortgage rate is essential, as rates can vary significantly between lenders. Comparing multiple quotes can lead to substantial savings.

Cleveland's Seventh-Inning Surge Defeats Miami Marlins

Tyler Freeman hit a crucial three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the visiting Cleveland Guardians to a 6-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. With the game tied at 2-2, Cleveland's Brayan Rocchio and Steven Kwan singled, setting the stage for Freeman's decisive shot off A.J. Puk, putting the Guardians ahead permanently.

The Guardians' bullpen, featuring Tim Herrin, Nick Sandlin (5-0), Sam Hentges, and Hunter Gaddis, delivered 3 1/3 scoreless innings, securing the win for the American League Central leaders. Cleveland wrapped up the series by winning the final two games after losing 3-2 in Friday's opener.

Miami's Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jake Burger each homered, with Trevor Rogers allowing one run and two hits over five innings despite four walks. Cleveland struck first in the second inning when Gabriel Arias homered off Rogers. Guardians starter Carlos Carrasco retired the first nine batters but allowed Chisholm's home run in the fourth and was charged with two runs before exiting in the fifth.

Cleveland tied the game in the sixth with Jose Ramirez doubling and scoring on David Fry's single. Ramirez added an RBI single in the ninth for insurance. Although Burger homered off Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase in the ninth, it wasn't enough to spark a Marlins comeback, who have now lost six of their last seven home games.

⚾ Genao's First High-A Homer Leads Captains Past Beloit

The Captains secured a 3-2 victory over host Beloit on June 9, winning four of the six games in the series.

Angel Genao kicked off the game with a home run on the first pitch, marking his first homer in High-A. In the fifth inning, Guy Lipscomb hit an RBI double, followed by run-scoring singles from Lipscomb and Jose Devers in the sixth. Jake Fox added an RBI double in the ninth for an insurance run.

Lipscomb and Fox each have eight doubles this season, with Fox tallying 25 RBIs and Lipscomb 20 RBIs.

Trenton Denholm pitched five innings, allowing two runs, striking out six, and walking three to earn the win and improve his record to 7-1. Zach Jacobs and Allan Hernandez each contributed two scoreless innings in relief.
