🌱 Spotting a Baby Deer? Here’s Why You Should Leave It Be

Mentor Nature: City of Mentor Natural Resources
As the season progresses, it's common to spot baby deer in unusual places around your property, such as garden beds or near decks. These fawns are typically left alone by their mothers during the day. The mother deer instructs her fawn to stay put until dusk, when she returns. This strategy helps avoid attracting predators since the mother has a strong scent, while the fawn does not. If you come across a fawn, it’s best to leave it undisturbed. By the next day, it will likely have moved to a different location or will be gone altogether.

🏘️ Summer Home Maintenance: Essential Tips to Keep Your Home in Top Shape
Summertime is a season of warmth and sunshine, but it can also bring challenges for homeowners. Proper maintenance during the summer months ensures your home stays comfortable, efficient, and in good repair. Here are some essential tips to help you keep your home in top shape throughout the summer.
1. Check Your Air Conditioning System
Your air conditioning (AC) system works overtime during the hot months. To ensure it runs efficiently:
Schedule a professional inspection and servicing.
Replace or clean filters monthly.
Clear debris around the outdoor unit to improve airflow.
2. Inspect and Clean Gutters
Summer storms can lead to clogged gutters, which may cause water damage to your home. Regularly inspect and clean your gutters to prevent blockages. Ensure downspouts direct water away from the foundation.
3. Seal Windows and Doors
To keep cool air inside and hot air outside:
Check for gaps and cracks around windows and doors.
Use weatherstripping or caulking to seal leaks.
Consider installing energy-efficient windows if needed.
4. Maintain Your Lawn and Garden
A well-maintained lawn and garden enhance your home's curb appeal and can also help keep it cool:
Water plants early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation.
Mow the lawn regularly and keep grass at a healthy height.
Mulch flower beds to retain moisture and reduce weeds.
5. Check for Pests
Summer can bring an influx of pests like ants, mosquitoes, and termites. Protect your home by:
Inspecting for signs of infestations.
Sealing cracks and openings where pests might enter.
Using pest control treatments as necessary.
6. Inspect the Roof
Summer heat can exacerbate any existing damage to your roof. Regularly inspect for:
Loose or missing shingles.
Signs of wear and tear.
Leaks or water damage in the attic.
7. Clean and Maintain Outdoor Areas
Outdoor spaces like decks, patios, and pools require attention during the summer:
Clean and seal wooden decks to prevent damage from sun and rain.
Check for cracks or damage in patios and walkways.
Maintain pool cleanliness and check chemical levels regularly.
8. Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
While often overlooked, testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is crucial:
Replace batteries if needed.
Ensure detectors are functioning properly.
By following these maintenance tips, you can enjoy a comfortable, efficient, and safe home throughout the summer months. Regular upkeep not only prevents costly repairs but also enhances the longevity and value of your property.

🏈 New Kickoff Rules Take Center Stage at Browns Mini-Camp, & More
The Cleveland Browns mini-camp begins Tuesday in Berea with significant changes to practice this year. A major focus will be adapting to a new NFL kickoff rule: kicking team players must wait until the ball lands or reaches the end zone before moving. This change aims to reduce injuries and could result in more exciting plays, such as touchdown returns. Teams will need to practice extensively to master the timing and avoid offsides penalties.
Mandatory Attendance and Star Players
Unlike the recent voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs), this mini-camp is mandatory for all veterans. Players like Myles Garrett, Amari Cooper, and David Njoku will be present, with absences resulting in fines starting at $12,000 per day.
New Coaches and Extended Practices
The mini-camp also serves as an opportunity for the Browns' new assistant coaches to familiarize themselves with the team's offensive and defensive schemes. Practices will be longer than those during OTAs, but the mini-camp will only last three days. Afterward, players won't report back until late July for training camp.
Training Camp at The Greenbrier
Training camp will once again be held at The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. The team believes the location, nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, reduces distractions and promotes team bonding. However, open training camp practices will still be held for fans in Berea, with dates to be announced soon. When not practicing, players can enjoy activities such as golfing, fishing, and bowling at the resort.
