The Mentor Farmers Market is set to return every Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Eleanor B. Garfield Park, starting TODAY.

Visitors can enjoy their shopping experience under the shade of century-old trees, browsing a wide variety of fresh-picked fruits and vegetables, specialty baked goods, plant starts, honey, maple products, and other farm-related goods.

This community event is presented by Cleveland Clinic and supported by CT Consultants, Aqua Ohio, Mutsko Insurance Services, Mimi Vanderhaven, and Tour Lake County.

Eleanor Garfield Park is located at 7967 Mentor Avenue.

🎬 Mentor Headlands Beach Set for Major Film Production, Believed to be New Superman Movie

A Hollywood film production has taken over a portion of Mentor Headlands beach in Lake County, sparking excitement in Northeast Ohio. This project, known as "Genesis," is widely believed to be the new Superman movie directed by James Gunn, although no official confirmation has been provided.

3News captured footage of tents and camera equipment set up at the beach on Wednesday, suggesting that filming will begin soon. Additionally, downtown Cleveland's Public Square will also be featured in the film, as confirmed by the Greater Cleveland Partnership.

Angela Boehm Casting announced back in April that the "Genesis" project would have Cleveland shoot dates from June 17 to July 16, followed by filming in Cincinnati on July 17-18. Despite online speculation that "Genesis" is the new Superman movie, details remain unconfirmed. Bill Garvey, president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, has not disclosed specifics about the project.

Last year, Garvey hinted at major productions coming to Cleveland, promising that "people are going to be happy" with the upcoming films. The Ohio Department of Development has awarded the "Genesis" project a tax credit worth over $11 million. The new Superman movie is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.

📰 Bacteria Contamination Alert for Six Lake Erie Beaches

Mentor Headlands Beach State Park

Six beaches in Northern Ohio along Lake Erie are under a bacteria contamination advisory due to traces of E. coli found in the waters. The affected beaches include:

  • Whites Landing and Bay View West in Erie County

  • Community Park Beach in Lorain County

  • Columbia Park Beach and Arcadia Beach in Cuyahoga County

  • Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula County.

Despite the advisory, the beaches remain open. Dr. Amy Edwards from University Hospitals advises caution, especially for high-risk individuals and children, as E. coli contamination can occur through direct contact with contaminated water.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District performs daily water testing at 6 a.m., with results shared publicly. Public Information Specialist Jessica Shutty emphasizes the importance of checking these updates before visiting the beach. Continuous monitoring is conducted, and additional tests are carried out if E. coli levels are detected to ensure safety for swimmers and marine life.

🎣Ohio's Free Fishing Days Offer License-Free Weekend on June 15-16

Ohio residents can enjoy fishing without a license on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, during the state's annual free fishing days. Organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, this event allows fishing in public waterways, including Lake Erie, the Ohio River, and numerous lakes, reservoirs, streams, and rivers across the state.

These free fishing days are the only weekend each year when residents aged 16 and older can fish without purchasing a license. Individuals under 16 can fish for free year-round. Standard fishing regulations, including size and bag limits, will still apply.

The event aims to introduce Ohioans to fishing. Beginners are encouraged to visit easily accessible locations like ponds, lakes, or streams and use live bait to improve their chances of catching fish. Participants are advised to bring snacks, take photos, and be patient.

Ohio offers diverse fishing spots, including Lake Erie, the Ohio River, and many inland lakes and streams. The Division of Wildlife enhances fish habitats and stocks over 200 locations annually with species such as walleye, perch, trout, catfish, and bass.

Outside of the free fishing weekend, anglers aged 16 and older need a valid fishing license, available for $25 for a one-year resident license, which can be purchased online.

However, Zapata provided relief and was credited with the win, improving his record to 1-5. This victory boosted Lake County’s record to 36-24, keeping them securely in first place in their division.
