🛣️ Improvements and Variable Speed Limit Extensions Aim to Reduce Ohio Traffic Deaths

Ohio is investing nearly $87 million into 28 road safety projects across 22 counties to reduce severe and deadly crashes, particularly at dangerous intersections. Key initiatives include extending the Interstate 90 Variable Speed Limit Corridor and constructing 19 roundabouts, which have proven to lower crash rates significantly. These improvements are part of ODOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program, with completion of the major I-90 project slated for 2026.

One of the key projects includes a $2.3 million investment to extend the Interstate 90 Variable Speed Limit Corridor six miles west of the State Route 306 Interchange, completing the highest snow belt area in ODOT’s District 12. This project is scheduled for completion in 2026.

🙄 What? Red Pickup Truck Travels in Reverse on Interstate 90

A startling video captured a driver on Interstate 90 traveling in reverse on Thursday afternoon - and he’s doing maybe 60 MPH? The footage, shot by local videographer Khristian Santana, shows a red pickup truck facing the wrong way while keeping up with traffic. Initially posted on Instagram, Santana explained that he first thought the truck was either heading toward him or being towed.

The Ohio Department of Transportation provided additional video showing the truck merging onto the interstate at West 84th Street and continuing in reverse until it was out of camera view at Fulton Road. Santana later received another video via social media of the truck still moving in reverse near Lorain, speculating that it exited the interstate at West 25th Street. Eventually, the police caught up to him.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol did not respond to the incident and referred all inquiries to Cleveland Police.

📰 Fireworks Not Permitted in the City of Mentor

As Independence Day nears, the Mentor community is gearing up for celebrations filled with family gatherings, delicious food, and festive fun. However, despite the recent legalization of fireworks in Ohio, the city of Mentor has maintained its prohibition on the sale and discharge of fireworks.

In 2022, Ohio permitted the possession and discharge of fireworks, allowing individual cities to set their own regulations. Mentor opted to keep fireworks illegal year-round. Violating this ordinance constitutes a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

The Mentor Police Department urges residents to enjoy a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July by avoiding the use of fireworks at home. Instead, they recommend attending the fireworks display at Civic Center Park, where the community can gather safely to celebrate.

Guardians Fall to Blue Jays 5-0, Carrasco Struggles on the Mound

On Saturday, the Cleveland Guardians suffered a 5-0 defeat against the Toronto Blue Jays. Cleveland's starting pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, endured a tough outing, conceding all five runs in his five innings on the mound. Carrasco, now with a season record of 2-6 and an ERA of 5.80, allowed six hits, walked two batters, and struck out two. Following Carrasco's exit, the Guardians' bullpen effectively shut down Toronto's offense, but the damage had already been done.

The Blue Jays' pitching staff showcased a dominant performance, with six pitchers collaborating to secure an eight-hit shutout. George Springer made significant contributions for Toronto, scoring twice and driving in a run. Cleveland's lineup was without their star player, Jose Ramirez, who was placed on the paternity leave list and did not participate in the game.
