🐩 Protect Your Pets: Tips for Keeping Them Safe in Extreme Heat

As temperatures soar, it's crucial to protect your pets from the dangers of extreme heat. Here's how to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable:

Adjust Walk Times: Avoid walking your dog during the heat of the day. Opt for early morning or late evening strolls to prevent burns on their paws from hot pavement. "If you can't hold your hand on the concrete for more than five seconds, it's too hot for your dog," advises veterinarian Dr. Austin Teel.

Indoor Comfort: During peak temperatures, keep pets indoors with air conditioning or fans. If they must stay outside, ensure they have ample shade and fresh water. "Reduce activity levels and provide access to water and shade," recommends Dr. Joshua Weisberg.

Recognize Heat Stroke: Signs of heat stroke in pets include heavy panting, excessive drooling, reddened gums, and difficulty walking. Immediate action is vital. Move pets to a cooler environment, use ice packs or cold towels, and offer small sips of water. Seek veterinary care immediately.

High-Risk Breeds: Brachycephalic breeds, such as Bulldogs and Pugs, are more susceptible to heat stroke. Extra caution is needed to keep these pets cool.

Never Leave Pets in Cars: Temperatures inside parked cars can quickly reach fatal levels, even with windows cracked. Always leave your pets at home rather than taking them on errands.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure your pets stay safe and healthy during extreme heat.

Guardians Shut Out Mariners with Bibee's Career-High Strikeouts

The Cleveland Guardians shut out the Seattle Mariners 8-0, led by Tanner Bibee's career-high 12 strikeouts over six innings. Josh Naylor added power with two home runs and four RBIs, extending Cleveland's lead in the AL Central.

Bibee (5-2) allowed only three hits and one walk, following his 11-strikeout game against Cincinnati on June 12. Steven Kwan also contributed with a two-run homer, raising his batting average to .397 and extending his on-base streak to 24 games. José Ramírez and Bo Naylor each had two hits.

Mariners' starter Bryan Woo (3-1), making his first appearance since June 6, gave up three runs in four innings. Despite a strong start to the season with a 1.07 ERA, Woo struggled early, walking Kwan, who later scored. Manager Scott Servais and shortstop J.P. Crawford were ejected in the fifth inning after disputes with the umpire.

Cleveland's bullpen, featuring Scott Barlow, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase, completed the shutout. This marks the Guardians' eighth shutout of the season.
