📰 Cleveland Kicks Off $2.3M Campaign for Iconic Superman Statue

A long-awaited tribute to Superman is set to become a reality in Cleveland. The Siegel and Shuster Society has officially launched a $2.3 million fundraising campaign to erect a Superman statue and plaza at the Huntington Convention Center. This project will also honor creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, alumni of Glenville High School, and Jerry's wife, the inspiration for Lois Lane.

Superman - 1940

Coinciding with the filming of the new Superman movie in various locations across Northeast Ohio, including Public Square, the Muni Lot, and Mentor Headlands Beach State Park, the campaign is seeking donations from the public. Organizers emphasize that no taxpayer money will be used for this project, appealing to "ordinary citizens from all walks of life who believe that a man can fly – at least one man."

The Superman tribute is scheduled for completion by April 1, 2025, and has received approval from the families of Siegel and Shuster, as well as DC Comics.

Cleveland Secures Series Win with 6-3 Victory Over Seattle

The Cleveland Guardians secured a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Thursday's series finale at Progressive Field, thanks to key late-game performances. Despite Mitch Garver throwing out his first runner of the season and Ryan Bliss delivering a go-ahead double for Seattle, the Guardians' persistence paid off.

Luis Castillo of the Mariners struggled in the 85-degree heat, allowing five runs, eight hits, and two home runs over five innings. In the fifth inning, after Castillo walked Steven Kwan, Andrés Giménez hit a two-run homer, followed by an RBI double from Josh Naylor, extending Cleveland's lead to 5-3.

Cleveland's lineup, featuring multiple left-handed hitters, capitalized on the platoon advantage, as left-handed hitters had a .258 average against Castillo. The Guardians thwarted a potential Mariners rally in the seventh inning with an inning-ending double play induced by Cade Smith.

The win secured the series and season series for the Guardians, who now lead the Mariners by 4 1/2 games in the American League standings and hold the first tiebreaker if both teams finish the season with identical records. Mariners' manager Scott Servais emphasized the importance of staying focused against strong teams, noting that every inning is crucial.
