⚾ Lively Secures Seventh Win, Guardians Top Blue Jays 6-3

Cleveland Guardians fans were initially uncertain about their starting pitching lineup after Shane Bieber was sidelined for the 2024 season. However, Ben Lively, a seemingly under-the-radar offseason signing, has stepped up impressively.

On Saturday, the 32-year-old pitcher secured his seventh win of the season as Cleveland triumphed over the Toronto Blue Jays with a score of 6-3. Lively pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, and two walks, while striking out four batters in 82 pitches, 57 of which were strikes. Both of his earned runs came from two-out solo home runs.

Lively's recent performance marks his sixth win in his last seven starts. He now holds a 7-3 record with a 3.03 ERA, 56 strikeouts, and only 20 walks in his first 12 starts with the Guardians.

Lively's career has been a journey. After debuting in MLB with the Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals from 2017 to 2019, he spent the next three years with the Samsung Lions in the Korean Baseball Organization. He returned to the U.S. to play with Triple-A Louisville in 2022 and then made 19 appearances for the Cincinnati Reds last year, recording a 4-7 record with a 5.38 ERA, 79 strikeouts, and 25 walks.

Originally drafted by Cleveland in the 26th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Gulf Breeze High School in Florida, Lively opted to attend the University of Central Florida instead. Fourteen years later, he is now making a significant impact for the first MLB organization that drafted him.
