Don’t delay if you’re interested! Laketran is excited to announce the introduction of its new Sports Express bus service, providing easy transportation to all 2024 Cleveland Browns home games, including preseason games. The service will commence on Saturday, August 10, when the Browns take on the Green Bay Packers.

This season, Laketran STS buses will offer round-trip tickets for $25 per person, facilitating fan travel to Cleveland. Buses will depart from the Mentor Park-n-Ride, located at 8650 Market Street in Mentor, two hours before game time, and drop passengers off at the northeast corner of St. Clair St. and E. 9th St., near the Galleria. Post-game, buses will depart 45 minutes after the final whistle, ensuring a convenient return trip.

“We’re very excited to bring back Sports Express service to our residents,” said Laketran board president Brian Falkowski. “Laketran ran a similar service 20 years ago, and we still get calls each year about it. We hope that both longtime fans and new riders will join us onboard to get to the game.”

The Sports Express service is limited to 134 tickets per game, so fans are encouraged to purchase early to secure their seats. Given the high demand and limited availability, tickets are expected to sell quickly.

Laketran previously operated a similar Sports Express service from 1985 to 2006, serving fans of both the Cleveland Browns and today's Cleveland Guardians. “We decided to bring the service back starting with the Browns because there’s just 10 home games,” explained Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “If the ticket sales go well, we may look into starting service to the Guardians in the spring.”

Tickets are available now at www.laketransts.com. For more information, call Laketran at 440-354-6100.

Royals' Sixth-Inning Surge Secures 2-1 Victory Over Guardians

Kyle Isbel and Maikel Garcia sparked a sixth-inning rally with back-to-back triples, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 victory over the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night. Vinnie Pasquantino's go-ahead sacrifice fly secured the win for the Royals.

In a tense game, Sam Long (2-1) earned the win in relief, escaping a jam in the sixth inning and then retiring the side in the seventh. John Schreiber managed the eighth inning, and James McArthur pitched a flawless ninth for his 14th save of the season. Ben Lively (7-4) was solid for Cleveland, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings, aided by strong defensive plays that included two double plays.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro was ejected in the fifth inning after a controversial call by third base umpire Tripp Gibson, which seemed to energize the Royals. The Guardians held a 1-0 lead thanks to Daniel Schneemann's sacrifice fly in the fifth. However, Isbel and Garcia's triples in the sixth quickly tied the game, and Pasquantino's sacrifice fly put Kansas City ahead.

Both teams missed multiple scoring opportunities, with Cleveland leaving the bases loaded twice and stranding nine runners. The Royals also failed to capitalize on several leadoff singles.

In other news, the Guardians agreed to a deal with left-hander Matthew Boyd, pending a physical, as he recovers from elbow surgery. Additionally, Cleveland placed outfielder Will Brennan on the injured list due to rib inflammation and made several roster moves, including recalling infielder José Tena and right-hander Darren McCaughan from Triple-A.

Looking ahead, Cleveland’s Triston McKenzie (3-4, 4.66 ERA) will face Kansas City’s Alec Marsh (5-5, 4.40 ERA) on Friday night.

🚶‍♂️🎣 ODNR Designates Wingfoot Lake for Inaugural Air & Space Trail & Ohio Fishing News

Wingfoot Lake, a favorite spot for anglers near Akron, has been designated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) as the site for the state’s inaugural Ohio Air & Space Trail. This new trail is part of the America-250 Ohio’s Trails & Tales program, which aims to establish five additional thematic experiential trails in Ohio over the next two years.

“Ohio’s pivotal role in aviation and space exploration is a testament to our state’s enduring spirit of innovation and discovery,” said Director Mary Mertz of the ODNR. “We are thrilled to see Wingfoot Lake State Park recognized as part of the Ohio Air and Space Trail, showcasing the remarkable achievements and contributions of Ohioans to the field of aerospace.”

Wingfoot Lake has a rich history as a recreational spot for employees of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and is known for its excellent fishing, especially for largemouth bass and bluegills. The lake, designated a no-wake zone, is perfect for kayak and canoe fishing. Anglers and paddlers can also enjoy the sight of the Goodyear blimp taking flight from its nearby hangars.

The park has seen recent upgrades, including a renovated Nature Center, a new 200-foot boardwalk for shore fishing, and amenities for hiking, picnicking, and kayak rentals. It also features nearby shooting and archery ranges.

Largemouth Bass Fishing: With summer here, anglers are finding largemouth bass in various Ohio waters. Bass fishing is especially good at Mosquito and Pymatuning reservoirs, Portage Lakes, Turkeyfoot Lake, and the Marblehead Peninsula's West Harbor and East Harbor. Anglers have been successful in catching bass in different water depths, with tournaments yielding some trophy catches.

Catfish in the Grand River: Big channel catfish are being caught in the lower Grand River, particularly around Kiwanis Recreation Park. Anglers are using crayfish, nightcrawlers, and traditional catfish baits. Although the spawning season has ended, catfish continue to be caught in Sandusky Bay and on the shallow reefs of Lake Erie.

Walleye on Lake Erie: Lake Erie charter captains report steady walleye catches along the Ohio shoreline. Most walleye are in the 18- to 22-inch range, with larger fish found in deeper waters. Anglers are using trolling spinner rigs with nightcrawlers, spoons, and diving plugs to catch these fish.
