๐ฆ Ohio's Bald Eagles Thriving with 841 Active Nests in 2024

With Independence Day just around the corner, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has shared uplifting news about one of the country's national emblems: bald eagles continue to thrive in Ohio.
The ODNR Division of Wildlife's annual spring survey reported an estimated 841 active eagle nests in 2024. While this is a decrease from last year's 910 nests, ODNR assures that the state's bald eagle population remains resilient.
ODNR also monitors the nest success rate, which measures the number of nests with eggs or eaglets. In 2024, Ohio's nest success rate was 82%, an improvement from 73% in 2023 and 48% in 2022. The average number of eagles per nest this year was 1.6.
Bald eagles, once an endangered species, had only four nesting pairs in Ohio in 1979. Thanks to extensive conservation efforts, they were removed from the federal endangered list in 2007 and Ohio's list in 2012.
Lake Erie and other large bodies of water in Ohio host the most bald eagles, offering easy access to fish. Wildlife experts remind the public that bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, which prohibits disturbing them. It's recommended to give the birds at least 100 yards of space.
Ohioans can report sightings of bald eagles and other wildlife on the ODNR website.
๐ 82nd Annual Fairport Mardi Gras Kicks Off with Parade and Fireworks

The 82nd annual Fairport Mardi Gras kicks off this Wednesday, July 3, bringing four days of festive fun to Fairport Harbor Beach Park. Running through July 6, the event promises rides, games, live music, a parade, and fireworks each evening from 1 to 11 p.m.
Shannon Barnhill, president of the Fairport Mardi Gras Committee, emphasized the festival's historical significance and unveiled this year's "Christmas in July" theme. A new ride company, Big Topโs Magic Midways, will provide fresh attractions, and Santa Claus will make special appearances. The Lake County sheriffโs mounted unit will also return for fireworks night, and there will be daily live music in the Entertainment Garden, alongside numerous concessions and vendors.
Barnhill shared that the festival originated as a street dance in 1939 to celebrate the paving of Chestnut Street. The "Mardi Gras" name was adopted for the event and has remained ever since. Mayor Timothy Manross highlighted the festival's importance to the community, calling it a time when family members reunite and celebrate their village.
Each day of the festival features different highlights. Wednesday's kickoff includes a parade at 7 p.m. and the crowning of the 2024 Mardi Gras queen. DJ Rick will entertain from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by a performance from the โ90s rock tribute band Jesters Revenge at 8 p.m.
Kids Day on Thursday, July 4, runs from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring free activities such as cookie decorating, cotton candy, a watermelon-eating contest, and a bike raffle. DJ Rick and DJ Wild Bill will provide music throughout the day.
Friday, July 5, is Alumni and Seniors Day, with shuttle services from the Fairport Senior Center starting at 11:30 a.m. The day includes bingo sessions and live music by Joey Panzarella and Guilty Party. A Fairport Harbor Schools reunion will take place from 5 to 11 p.m.
The festival concludes on Saturday, July 6, with a fireworks display at dusk. Live music by 2 Guys, 12 Strings will entertain from 1 to 5 p.m., and DJ Wild Bill will take the stage at 7 p.m.
For safety, Mayor Manross emphasized the family-friendly nature of the event and the implementation of new security measures. The Mardi Gras Committee outlined specific rules, including controlled entry points, mandatory parental presence for minors after 7 p.m., and bag inspections. Alcohol must be purchased within and stay in the designated Entertainment Garden.

๐ก Save Money with These DIY Garage Door Maintenance Tips
Thereโs a few things in my home and just donโt like to mess around with and one of them is the garage door. However, some things are pretty basic and if youโre like me then this article may help you a simple fix.
If you're facing issues with your garage door, you might not need a professional right away. Here are five basic do-it-yourself tips to help you troubleshoot and fix common problems.
Change the Remote Batteries and Clean the Sensors
If your garage door won't open or close, start by replacing the batteries in your remote. Often, this simple step resolves the issue.
If new batteries don't work, clean the sensors at the bottom of the door with a soft, microfiber cloth to remove any dirt or grime. Ensure the sensors are aligned correctly; they should face each other directly.
Tighten Nuts, Bolts, and Hinges
If your garage door rattles or makes clattering noises, the hardware might be loose. Tighten the bolts securing the rails to the support brackets.
Inspect roller brackets for wear. If the lower roller bracket shows signs of wear, contact a professional, as this part contains a high-tension cable that can be dangerous to handle without proper experience.
Lubricate the Moving Parts
Proper lubrication is essential for smooth operation. If your garage door squeals or squeaks, it's time to lubricate.
Use a lithium-based spray lubricant on the door hinges and metal rollers. Avoid lubricating nylon rollers.
Lubricate the springs and the bearing plates thoroughly. Open and close the door several times to distribute the lubricant evenly. If the keyhole is sticky, spray some lubricant into it as well.
Clean the Tracks
If your garage door still struggles to open, check the tracks for dirt and debris.
Close the door and use a clean rag with automotive brake cleaner to wipe the tracks. You can also clean the tracks with the door open, but secure it with a C-clamp to prevent movement.
Replace the Weather Seal
If you notice water or debris entering under the door, it might be time to replace the weather seal.
Most garage doors use a U-shaped astragal. Measure the width of the door when the astragal is squeezed flat to get the correct size for replacement.
These DIY tips can help you maintain and fix minor issues with your garage door. For more complicated problems, consider consulting a professional. Why not give one of these pros a call?
