๐ง Independence Day Celebration: Parking and Traffic Alerts for Mentor

City of Mentor
Following a tremendous turnout at Mentor Rocks Tuesday night, an even larger crowd is anticipated for the Independence Day celebration today. To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, parking restrictions have been enforced since June 2023 around intersections and along medians with heavy foot traffic.
Parked cars in these areas create visual barriers, reducing reaction time for both pedestrians and vehicles. NO PARKING signs have been posted around the Civic Center complex to protect both pedestrians and motorists. These signs are specifically located on Munson Civic Center Boulevard and along Munson Road, from the Pool to the Crossroads curve. Violators parked near these signs risk being ticketed or towed.
Additionally, Munson Road will be closed to vehicle traffic from Civic Center Boulevard to Market Street between 6 PM and 11 PM tomorrow evening. Motorists should also note that the fireworks launch base has been moved to the Civic Center ballfields, prohibiting parking along Civic Center Boulevard due to the proximity of the launch site. Civic Center Boulevard will be closed for the duration of the display.
Finding convenient parking at Mentor events can be challenging. Attendees are advised to allow ample time to secure parking to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.

๐โโฌ Fireworks Safety: Ensuring a Stress-Free Holiday for Animals

Courtesy of: adltexas.org
Humans may enjoy the revelry of fireworks, but for some pets, the experience can be as stressful as thunderstorms. Signs of stress in pets include violent shaking, trembling, excessive drooling, barking, howling, and attempts to hide or escape from the house or enclosure. Some pets may refuse to eat, and prolonged stress can cause loss of bladder or bowel control or temporary diarrhea.
To protect your pet from the stress associated with fireworks, it is best to keep them indoors. Closing the curtains or blinds and turning on the TV or radio can provide some distraction. Offering treat toys, such as KONGs filled with their favorite food, can help keep their minds busy. Providing a quiet place, like a carrier or crate, can give your pet a sense of security and comfort. If you need to go outside with your pet, use a leash or carrier to prevent them from running off in fear.
Practicing fire safety is also crucial. Keep pets away from matches, open fires, and fireworks, as they might try to sniff or eat them, and their hair can easily catch fire. Take pets for a walk before the fireworks begin, as some pets are too frightened to go out once the fireworks start, which can lead to accidents later on. Ensure your petโs ID and microchip information are current. Proper identification tags with up-to-date information are essential in case your pet gets lost. Microchipping is strongly recommended, with a typical cost of about $30. Consult your vet to schedule an appointment.
While some dogs may not seem to notice fireworks, others cannot be calmed by petting or talking. These animals might hurt themselves or escape if left alone, and the results can be fatal. Frightened pets running loose are at risk of getting lost or hit by a car. Therefore, be prepared to be there for your pet during the Fourth of July and New Year's Day.
If your pet does get lost, search your property thoroughly and contact your microchip company. To attract your pet, leave food and water outside along with their bed and a worn article of your clothing. Post lost flyers, ask your neighbors, visit your local animal care services center, and check lost and found ads daily. Additionally, register your pet with Petco Love Lost, a national lost/found pet tool that uses patented facial recognition technology to reunite pets and families.

โพ White Sox Snap Guardians' Home Streak with 8-2 Win
The Chicago White Sox triumphed over the Cleveland Guardians 8-2, led by Erick Fedde's six-inning performance and Martin Maldonado's three RBIs. Lenyn Sosa and Luis Robert Jr. added offensive strength, despite the White Sox having the worst record in the majors. Cleveland's Gavin Williams struggled in his return, while Brayan Rocchio's solo homer was a highlight in the Guardians' defeat, ending their six-game home winning streak.
Cleveland's All-Star starters, Josรฉ Ramรญrez and Steven Kwan, saw mixed results; Kwan went 1 for 4 and is just shy of qualifying for league leaders with his .360 batting average. The return of Williams is expected to bolster the Guardians' rotation, which has faced challenges including Shane Bieber's Tommy John surgery and Triston McKenzie's demotion to Triple-A Columbus.
โพ Captains Edge Out Dragons in Extra-Inning Pitcher's Duel, 2-1
In a tightly contested pitcher's duel, the Lake County Captains emerged victorious over the Dayton Dragons, winning 2-1 in 10 innings. Lake County's starter, Rorik Maltrud, delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits. However, Maltrud did not receive the win due to the equally effective performance by Dayton's pitchers.
The win ultimately went to Magnus Ellerts (3-2), with Adam Tulloch securing his first save of the season. Angel Genao was the standout player for the Captains, collecting three of the team's six hits and driving in an RBI. Genao's crucial hit came in the 10th inning, when he singled to center field, bringing home Maick Collado and securing the victory on the road.
