š Ohio Schools Struggle with Bus Driver Shortage for Fourth Year
Ohio schools are facing a bus driver shortage for the fourth year in a row, with over 600 districts struggling to meet transportation demands. A survey from the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) found that only 7% of districts are fully staffed, with many turning to substitute drivers, office staff, and mechanics to cover routes. About 9% of districts are unable to find a workable solution, forcing some schools to delay classes or dismiss early.
The increased use of private school vouchers has added pressure, as more students now attend non-public schools, creating a demand for transportation at peak times. The majority of districts are unable to meet all these demands, especially since students from public and private schools typically need to be transported at the same times each day.
In response, 44% of districts are offering higher pay and bonuses, while some are creating full-time positions or paying parents to drive their children. Despite these efforts, long hours, split shifts, and concerns over student behavior are making it hard to attract new drivers. The shortage has been compounded by retirements and competition from the trucking and delivery industries, further straining school transportation systems.
Today, we reviewed the Mentor School Systemās Job Board and from we can see, there is just one substitute bus operator position and one substitute bus assistant position open at this time.

š° Evening Rush Hour Deemed Most Dangerous for Ohio Drivers, Study Finds
A recent study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has highlighted the most dangerous times to drive across the United States. The analysis, which covered fatal crash data from 2017 to 2022, was examined by personal injury lawyer Scott Vicknair. The findings pinpoint the riskiest time to be on the road in each state, with a notable focus on Ohio.
In Ohio, the data revealed that the most hazardous hour for driving is between 6 p.m. and 6:59 p.m. During this period, 402 of the stateās 6,705 fatal crashes occurred over the five-year span. This peak coincides with evening rush hour, traditionally a time of higher traffic volume as people return home from work.
The trend is not limited to Ohio. Nationwide, the 6 p.m. to 6:59 p.m. window recorded the highest number of fatal crashes. Interestingly, while the afternoon and evening consistently proved to be the deadliest across all states, no state saw its highest fatality rates in the morning, an unexpected finding according to experts from Vicknairās office.

šø Snap Happy: Travel Photography Tips for Stunning Vacation Photos
Planning a vacation is exhilarating, but letās be honestāhalf the fun is showing off your fabulous trip through Facebook or Instagram-worthy photos. Whether you're off to the mountains, the beach, or that quaint little European village, you want to come back with photos that do your vacation justice. Fear not, aspiring travel photographers! Iām here to equip you with some simple, yet effective tips that will help you snap stunning travel photos that will make your friends say, āDid you hire a photographer?!ā
1. Keep Your Equipment Simple
First things first: no need to bring every piece of camera gear you own. Traveling light is key! If youāve got a fancy DSLR or mirrorless camera, greatābut donāt be afraid to go minimalist. Sometimes a trusty smartphone with a good camera can work wonders. A small tripod or a selfie stick for stable shots, extra memory cards, and a portable battery pack will help you avoid the dreaded ālow batteryā tragedy just as the sun sets behind that picturesque castle.
2. Know Your Lighting
Lighting is everything in photography, and natural light is your best friend. The "golden hour" (the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset) provides soft, warm lighting that will flatter both landscapes and faces. Avoid midday sun if possibleāit tends to create harsh shadows and overexposed shots that make everyone look like they forgot sunscreen. Cloudy days, on the other hand, offer diffused light, perfect for eliminating harsh shadows and bringing out richer colors.
3. Rule of ThirdsāIt Works!
Even if you have no idea what "aperture" and "shutter speed" mean, you can still elevate your travel photos with one simple rule: the Rule of Thirds. Imagine your shot divided into a grid of nine equal partsāplace the subject of your photo along one of these lines or at their intersections. It creates a more balanced, visually interesting shot, and it's the quickest way to go from "meh" to "marvelous."
4. Tell a Story with Your Photos
Instead of just snapping random shots, try to create a visual narrative. Capture the little moments: the texture of that delicious meal, the colorful street markets, the candid laughter of locals. Donāt just focus on landmarksāimmerse yourself in the culture. Itās those small, authentic moments that really make a photo album come to life.
5. Donāt Be Afraid to Edit
Once youāve captured your travel magic, donāt hesitate to enhance it with some light editing. There are many free apps like Snapseed and Lightroom Mobile that allow you to adjust brightness, contrast, and color saturation. A little editing can make your photos pop without turning them into cartoonish versions of reality. The goal is to enhance, not distort.
6. Be Patient (But Not Creepy)
Good travel photography often requires patience. You might need to wait for the perfect light, or for that large group of tourists to move out of your shot. Itās okayātake a deep breath, enjoy the view, and wait for the magic moment. However, try not to linger too long in one spotāespecially if you're waiting for a stranger to move so you can get the shot. You don't want to cross the line from "dedicated photographer" to "borderline stalker." Ha!
Final Thoughts
Whether youāre snapping away on a bustling city street or capturing the calm of a serene beach, these travel photography tips will help you return home with memories as vivid as the day you took them. So pack your bags, grab your camera (or phone), and let your inner photographer shine!
ā¾ Milwaukee Edges Cleveland 2-1; Guardians' AL Central Lead Shrinks
In a tightly contested pitching duel, the Milwaukee Brewers edged past the Cleveland Guardians, securing a 2-1 victory and completing the sweep of the brief series. Clevelandās Tanner Bibee allowed an early run in the first inning off a double to left by Sanchez, which was unearned due to an error by Bibee. Later in the fourth, the Brewerās Contreras would hit his 17th homerun of the year which would be enough to win the game. Despite a solid performance over five innings, where he struck out seven and allowed only three hits, Bibee took the loss, dropping his record to 10-5 for the season. The Guardians' bullpen followed with a strong showing, but the offense couldnāt find its rhythm against the Brewers' pitchers. Both teams recorded four hits on the night, but Cleveland couldn't turn theirs into runs. With the Minnesota Twins winning their game yesterday, Cleveland's lead in the AL Central has now been reduced to just two games.

š Vikings Top Browns as Mullens Seizes Backup Quarterback Role
After a season-ending injury to rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Nick Mullens stepped up and helped the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Cleveland Browns 27-12 in a preseason game. Mullens threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Trishton Jackson in the first quarter and avoided turnovers, a key improvement from his struggles last season.
Jaren Hall, Minnesotaās third-string quarterback, added two second-half touchdown passes, including a 71-yard strike to Jeshaun Jones. Rookie kicker Will Reichard contributed two field goals, and the Vikings improved to 2-0 in the preseason. The Browns, now 0-2, got a 1-yard touchdown from D'Onta Foreman and a 33-yard field goal by Cade York.
Minnesota head coach Kevin OāConnell and Cleveland's Kevin Stefanski chose to rest their starters and key backups after a productive week of joint practices. Deshaun Watson, Clevelandās starting quarterback, did not play but is expected to return next week against Seattle.
Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson went 13 of 17 for 126 yards but threw a late interception. Minnesotaās defense also shined as rookie cornerback Dwight McGlothern returned an interception 90 yards.
The Browns suffered additional setbacks with injuries to offensive tackles James Hudson, Germain Ifedi, and Hakeem Adeniji, adding to their concerns ahead of the season.
