📰 Couple Hospitalized After Major House Fire in Mentor

Early Wednesday morning, a couple was hospitalized after a fire broke out at their home on Kephart Drive in Mentor. The first emergency call came in at 5:36 a.m., with reports of explosions accompanying the blaze. Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with a severe fire and concerns that someone was trapped inside.
Fire crews conducted an interior search and found the male homeowner unconscious on the first floor. He was immediately rescued and transported to the hospital, though his current condition has not been disclosed. Meanwhile, his wife had managed to escape the burning house and was found alert in a neighbor's yard. She was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and is reported to be in stable condition.
The fire is believed to have started accidentally in the attached garage, but the exact cause remains under investigation. As of 10:30 a.m., firefighters were still at the scene.
Several neighboring fire departments, including those from Willoughby, Leroy, and Painesville, assisted in handling the incident. Mentor Fire Chief Robert Searles praised the coordinated effort, stating that the responders did an outstanding job managing the dangerous situation. The couple's names have not yet been released.

🐈 Training Tips: How to Address Common Behavior Issues in Pets
Training and Behavior: Addressing Common Behavior Problems
Pets bring immense joy into our lives, but their behavior can sometimes present challenges. Whether you’re dealing with a stubborn pup or a mischievous kitty, many common behavior problems are manageable with the right approach. Here's a breakdown of how to address some of the most typical issues.
1. Jumping Up on People One of the most frequent complaints from dog owners is the persistent jumping habit. While it may seem cute when they’re small, it becomes less so when your pup is fully grown. To curb this behavior, teach your dog an alternative response, such as sitting when greeting people. Consistency is key—encourage everyone in your household to avoid rewarding the jumping behavior and instead wait until the dog is calm before offering affection.
2. Barking or Meowing Excessively Constant noise can be overwhelming. For dogs, barking is often a sign of boredom, fear, or the need for attention. Identify the triggers: Is it when the mail arrives? Or perhaps when the dog is left alone? Positive reinforcement, training commands, and ensuring they have enough mental and physical stimulation are crucial to managing this behavior. Cats, too, can meow excessively for attention, especially when hungry. Ensuring regular feeding times and giving them plenty of attention when they’re quiet can help reduce this habit.
3. Chewing or Scratching Chewing is a natural behavior, especially for puppies. However, destructive chewing can be problematic. Offering plenty of chew toys and making sure your pet gets enough exercise will help. Redirecting their attention from furniture or shoes to appropriate chew items is essential. For cats, scratching is their way of marking territory and keeping their claws sharp. Providing scratching posts in key areas can reduce the likelihood of them targeting your furniture.
4. Inappropriate Bathroom Habits House-training issues can cause significant frustration. Patience and consistency are your best allies here. For dogs, regular bathroom breaks and rewarding good behavior are essential. If accidents happen indoors, avoid punishment, as this can cause anxiety. Cats often develop litter box issues if the box isn’t clean or is in an undesirable location. Ensuring cleanliness and privacy can solve many litter box problems.
With time, patience, and consistency, most behavior problems can be addressed effectively, helping you and your pet enjoy a harmonious life together.
⚾ Judge and Soto Power Yankees to 8-1 Win Over Guardians
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto powered the New York Yankees to an 8-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night. Judge blasted two home runs, driving in three runs, while Soto added a two-run homer in the first inning and contributed five RBIs. Judge’s homers, a two-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the seventh, brought his major league-leading total to 47. This marked Judge’s fourth multi-homer game of the season and his 38th career multi-homer game.
Soto also stayed hot, hitting his career-high 36th home run on Cleveland rookie Joey Cantillo’s sixth pitch, before doubling in three more runs in the fourth inning. The Yankees are now 9-2 this season when both Judge and Soto homer in the same game.
Yankees starter Nestor Cortes delivered a strong performance, pitching seven innings of four-hit ball and securing his second consecutive win. Meanwhile, Cantillo struggled, allowing seven runs in four innings. Cleveland rookie Jhonkensy Noel hit a late solo homer, but it wasn’t enough as the Guardians fell, marking their 11th loss in 17 games.
Injury updates saw Yankees’ Luis Gil placed on the injured list with a strained lower back, while other key players like Clarke Schmidt and Anthony Rizzo are progressing in their recovery.
