💥Loud Explosions in Geauga County Due to Military Detonations, Police Say

Residents of Geauga County and surrounding areas may have been startled by loud noises on Saturday, but Thompson police have assured the community that there is no cause for concern. The disturbances were caused by U.S. military explosive ordnance teams conducting controlled detonations at Sidley mining.

According to a statement from the police on Facebook, those who heard explosions or experienced their homes shaking were simply hearing the military’s operations. The noise is expected to continue throughout the weekend as more detonations are planned.

Police acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the explosions but clarified that they have no authority to stop federal activities. Meanwhile, officials in nearby Madison Village, located in Lake County, have also requested that residents avoid calling 911 about the noise, as it is not an emergency situation.

📰 Free Hydroponic Farming Classes Open to Public at Lakeland College

Lakeland Community College's Veterans Center is hosting a series of hydroponic farming workshops, funded by the Cleveland Foundation Lake-Geauga Fund. These free workshops aim to promote personal growth and wellness through agriculture and are open to the public, running through December 12. The program covers hydroponic production systems, agriculture education, business planning, and local produce sales. Held every Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Lakeland’s greenhouse classroom (H-Building, Room H-331). Participants can attend any or all sessions.

Veterans Center Manager S. Rhonda Osagie-Erese emphasized the flexible format, allowing participants to join classes that fit their schedules. Completion of the program, run in partnership with organizations like OD Greens and the USDA, offers a certificate from Central State University’s Fast Track Farming program. This certificate provides formal agricultural training, which can be useful for securing loans or grants in farming.

⚾ Guardians Smash Rangers 13-5 with Noel’s Three-Run Homer and Power Display

The Cleveland Guardians had an explosive night on Saturday, routing the Texas Rangers 13-5. Jhonkensy Noel delivered a powerful three-run homer in the third inning, his 11th home run in just 40 games since his debut on June 26. Noel, standing tall at 6-foot-3 and weighing 250 pounds, also matched his career-high with three hits and scored three times.

José Ramírez and Josh Naylor added to the fireworks with back-to-back solo home runs, leading the Guardians to score 11 unanswered runs after initially trailing 1-0. Naylor, Steven Kwan, and Brayan Rocchio all contributed to the onslaught, with Naylor and Rocchio each scoring twice and Kwan driving in two runs. The Guardians matched their season-high in runs, showcasing a potent offense that overwhelmed the Rangers.

Pitcher Ben Lively (11-8) turned in a solid performance, working 6 2/3 innings while allowing just two earned runs. Lively threw 105 pitches, the most he has thrown in seven years, and struck out four batters.

On the other side, Rangers starter Jon Gray (5-5) struggled, allowing seven runs, six earned, in just two-plus innings. Despite efforts from Marcus Semien, Leody Taveras, and Wyatt Langford—who went 3 for 4—Texas couldn’t keep pace with Cleveland’s hot bats. The Rangers haven’t won a series at Progressive Field since 2016.

Next, the series finale will feature Rangers LHP Cody Bradford (4-1, 3.56 ERA) against Guardians LHP Matthew Boyd (0-0, 3.38 ERA).
