🥵 Sweltering Heat and Humidity to Continue Through Early This Week

US National Weather Service in Cleveland, OH.
The ongoing warming trend, accompanied by rising humidity levels, is expected to persist through early this week. As a result, heat index values are projected to soar above 100 degrees by Tuesday, creating sweltering conditions across the region. For Monday and Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms are possible, though the chance of any severe storms remains relatively low. Residents should stay alert to changing weather patterns, especially during peak heat hours.
📰 Renowned Photographer Johnny Joo to Showcase Abandoned Architecture at Free Event
Internationally acclaimed artist Johnny Joo, renowned for his hauntingly beautiful photography of abandoned architecture and surrealistic digital creations, will be featured in an upcoming event on Tuesday August 27th. Growing up between Cleveland's urban landscape and the rural expanses of Northeast Ohio, Johnny was deeply influenced by the juxtaposition of decay and nature’s reclamation. His photography captures everything from deserted malls to long-forgotten country homes, revealing a world of structures left to time. His artistic journey began at age 16 when a high school project led him into an abandoned farmhouse, sparking a passion that has since expanded into a multifaceted career. Beyond photography, Johnny has published four books and explored music, spoken word poetry, videography, and art installations.
The event is free and open to the public, offering a chance to explore Johnny's unique perspective on the beauty found in forgotten places.

🏠Existing-Home Sales Climb 1.3% in July Amid Rising Prices and Limited Inventory
In July, existing-home sales saw a modest increase of 1.3% from the previous month, breaking a four-month decline, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Despite this uptick, sales were still 2.5% lower than the same time last year.
The median sales price of existing homes continued to climb, reaching $422,600, which marks a 4.2% annual rise from $405,600. This upward trend reflects the continued demand in the housing market, even as overall sales remain sluggish.
Regionally, the South led the market with an annual rate of 1.79 million home sales, a 1.1% rise from June but a 3.8% drop from the year prior. The median price in the South increased by 2.3% to $372,500. The Midwest followed with 920,000 units sold, unchanged from June but down 5.2% year-over-year, with the median price rising 4.5% to $321,300.
In the West, existing-home sales reached 750,000 units, reflecting a 1.4% increase both from the previous month and the previous year. The median price in the West grew 3.4% to $629,500. The Northeast saw the strongest monthly growth, with sales increasing by 4.3% from June and 2.1% year-over-year to 490,000 units. The region also experienced the largest annual price jump of 8.3%, with the median price reaching $505,100.
Several factors are influencing the housing market, with low inventory and high mortgage rates being the most significant. Although there was a slight improvement in affordability due to lower mortgage rates in July, the supply of homes remains limited. In July, the housing inventory reached 1.33 million units, which represents a 0.8% increase from the previous month and a 19.8% increase from last year. The supply on the market is currently at four months, still below the traditional six months needed for a balanced market.
Buyers continue to face challenges in finding affordable homes, particularly in the lower- and mid-priced segments, as multiple offers remain common. Additionally, the average time homes spent on the market rose to 24 days in July, up from 22 days in June and 20 days a year earlier. Cash buyers accounted for 27% of sales, highlighting the competitive nature of the market.
While the market is gradually improving, with signs of thawing due to lower mortgage rates and an increase in inventory, experts caution that affordability challenges remain. Buyers are encouraged to stay informed, assess their financial options carefully, and be proactive when the right opportunity arises.

⚾ Noel Powers Guardians to 4-2 Win Over Rangers; Boyd Earns First Win in Over a Year
Jhonkensy Noel homered once again, and Matthew Boyd delivered six solid innings, earning his first win in over a year as the Cleveland Guardians topped the Texas Rangers 4-2 on Sunday. Noel's solo shot in the second inning marked his 12th homer since debuting on June 26, tying a Cleveland record for home runs in the first 41 games of a career. Boyd, making his third start since returning from Tommy John surgery, allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four.
The Rangers narrowed the deficit in the fifth when Jonah Heim's double brought home Josh Jung. However, Cleveland quickly regained control as Noel scored his second run of the game in the seventh inning following a wild pitch and a throwing error by Texas reliever Jose Leclerc. Corey Seager homered for Texas in the eighth, but David Fry responded with a solo shot for Cleveland in the bottom half.
Emmanuel Clase sealed the win with a dominant ninth inning, striking out the side for his league-leading 38th save, extending his streak of 25 straight conversions.
The Guardians, who lead the AL Central, have now won two of three on their current homestand and continue their impressive run, having not lost a series to the Rangers since 2016. Both the Twins and the Royals lost on Sunday so the Guardians now have a 3 game lead on both clubs.
