🐩 5 Ways to Keep Senior Pets Healthy and Active
s pets grow older, their needs change just like humans. Keeping senior pets healthy and active requires special attention, as aging can bring a range of physical and mental challenges. However, with the right care, older pets can continue to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life. Here are some essential tips for maintaining the well-being of your senior pet.
1. Regular Veterinary Checkups Routine visits to the vet are crucial as pets age. Senior pets are more susceptible to conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, and kidney issues, so it’s important to catch any potential problems early. Your vet may suggest dietary changes or medications to manage these conditions, ensuring your pet remains comfortable and healthy.
2. Balanced Diet and Weight Management Older pets are prone to weight gain, which can put extra strain on their joints and organs. A diet tailored to their specific age, weight, and health condition is vital. Many brands offer senior pet food formulas designed to promote mobility, manage weight, and support overall health. Always provide fresh water and consult your vet about the best nutrition plan for your pet.
3. Gentle Exercise While senior pets may not be able to run or jump like they used to, staying active is still important for their physical and mental health. Short, daily walks or gentle play sessions can help keep their muscles and joints in good condition. Swimming can also be a great low-impact exercise for pets with arthritis. The key is to tailor activities to their abilities to avoid overexertion.
4. Mental Stimulation Just like physical exercise, mental stimulation is important to keep your pet’s mind sharp. Puzzle toys, gentle training sessions, and interactive games can help keep their brain engaged. Even simple activities like exploring new areas during walks or playing with new toys can provide much-needed mental enrichment.
5. Comfort at Home As pets age, they may need more comfort. Providing a warm, supportive bed can help soothe aching joints, while ramps or stairs can assist pets who struggle with mobility. Keep their living space free of hazards, ensuring that food, water, and their favorite spots are easily accessible.
By following these simple steps, you can help ensure your senior pet remains happy, active, and healthy throughout their golden years.
⚾ Lane Thomas Drives Guardians to Series Sweep Over Struggling White Sox
The Cleveland Guardians secured a 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, completing a three-game series sweep. Lane Thomas led the charge for the Guardians, driving in four runs with a pair of infield singles, while Austin Hedges added a solo home run. This win solidifies Cleveland's position at the top of the AL Central, extending their lead to four games over second-place Kansas City. They also moved a half-game ahead of the Yankees for the best record in the American League.
The Guardians finished their nine-game road trip with an impressive 6-3 record, making stops in Kansas City and Los Angeles along the way. Manager Stephen Vogt expressed pride in his team’s performance, especially given the late-season challenges.
Chicago, on the other hand, is struggling mightily, having lost 15 straight games at home and 17 of their last 19 overall. The team now faces the grim possibility of nearing the post-1900 record for most losses in a season.
Thomas, who is hitting .405 in September, delivered three hits in the game, continuing his hot streak. Cleveland’s bullpen, led by Nick Sandlin, shut down the White Sox offense, allowing only two hits across the final innings. Closer Emmanuel Clase notched his 44th save of the season.
White Sox pitcher Davis Martin allowed five runs in just three innings. Despite some help from Cleveland’s error in the third, Chicago couldn't close the gap, and Cleveland added an insurance run in the eighth.
