📰 Painesville Man Charged After Crashing Into Wall and Utility Pole in Mentor

A Painesville man is facing several charges following a crash in Mentor that resulted in damage to both a brick wall and a utility pole. The incident took place in the early hours of September 23, when Mentor police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident near Center Street and Lindsey Drive.

The 35-year-old man had just left the Petticoat Junction located at 8376 Tyler Blvd. in his Dodge Durango when he crashed into a brick wall separating the parking lots of Spudnuts and Classic Auto Rental. After this collision, he drove eastbound onto Fracci Court. He then turned around in the cul-de-sac and headed back westbound on Fracci Court.

As he attempted to turn south onto Center Street, he failed to make the turn correctly, resulting in a second crash into a utility pole at the corner of Center and Lindsey Drive. Emergency responders transported the man to UH Lake West Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released.

He now faces multiple charges, including failure to control, hit-skip, and operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI).

🚰 Stay Hydrated Year-Round: Seasonal Tips for Optimal Wellness

Staying hydrated is essential for maintaining good health, and each season brings its own set of hydration challenges. Here are some valuable tips to keep you well-hydrated, no matter the time of year.

1. Winter Hydration

Winter’s cold air can be deceiving, often masking our thirst. Indoor heating can dry out your skin and body, making hydration just as important as during the warmer months. Start your day with a warm glass of water and lemon, which helps kick-start your metabolism and hydrate your body. Herbal teas and broths are also excellent choices, providing warmth and fluid without excessive caffeine.

2. Spring Hydration

As temperatures rise and you become more active, it’s crucial to replenish fluids lost through sweat. Opt for water-rich foods like cucumbers, strawberries, and leafy greens. These not only hydrate but also provide vitamins and minerals that support overall wellness. Keep a water bottle on hand throughout the day as a reminder to sip regularly.

3. Summer Hydration

Hot summer days can lead to rapid dehydration, especially if you’re spending time outdoors. Increase your water intake to match your activity level. Adding a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon to your water can help replenish lost electrolytes. Consider making homemade fruit-infused water with slices of watermelon, mint, or citrus for a refreshing twist.

4. Autumn Hydration

Fall can be a tricky season for hydration. The weather cools, and people often forget to drink as much. Incorporate seasonal produce like apples, pears, and pumpkins, which have a high water content, into your diet. Swap out one coffee a day for a cup of warm, hydrating herbal tea.

General Hydration Tips

  • Listen to Your Body: Thirst isn’t always the best indicator of dehydration. If you’re feeling tired, lightheaded, or have a headache, drink some water.

  • Set Reminders: Use a hydration app or set an alarm to remind you to drink water every couple of hours.

  • Carry a Water Bottle: Make it a habit to carry a reusable water bottle wherever you go. It’s an easy way to keep track of your water intake.

  • Water alone isn’t always enough, especially if you’re sweating heavily due to exercise or heat. Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium are essential for maintaining fluid balance in your body. You can replenish them by drinking coconut water, sports drinks (in moderation), or adding electrolyte powders to your water.

Guardians Secure First-Round Bye with 6-1 Win Over Reds

The Cleveland Guardians secured a first-round bye in the postseason with a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, thanks to strong performances from Lane Thomas and Josh Naylor. Thomas hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, while Naylor added two RBIs, helping the AL Central champions improve their home record to an impressive 49-28.

Starting pitcher Tanner Bibee (12-8) delivered an outstanding performance, allowing just one run on four hits over seven innings. Bibee, who struck out seven batters, earned his first home win since July 19 and is expected to be a key player for the Guardians in Game 1 of the ALDS.

Thomas and Kyle Manzardo both went deep against Reds pitcher Carson Spiers (5-7) in a productive three-run first inning, setting the tone for the Guardians' victory.

The Reds played under interim manager Freddie Benavides, who took over after David Bell was fired on Sunday. Benavides, whose last managerial role was in 2007 with Single-A Billings, expressed excitement about the opportunity to lead the team, no matter how long it lasts.

Cincinnati's Spencer Steer drove in the team's lone run with an RBI single in the fourth inning, scoring Tyler Stephenson. Reds leadoff hitter Jonathan India was hit by a pitch in the fifth but continued to play for two more innings. Carson Spiers allowed three runs over four innings in a spot start, while Ian Gibaut made his first major league appearance since September 2023, pitching one inning and allowing one run.

Cleveland will now enjoy a five-day break before their division series opener on October 5 at Progressive Field.
