๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Ohio Minimum Wage Set to Increase to $10.70 per Hour in 2025
Ohio's minimum wage is set to rise on January 1, 2025. For non-tipped employees, the wage will increase to $10.70 per hour, while tipped employees will see their wages rise to $5.35 per hour. This adjustment applies to workers at businesses with annual gross receipts exceeding $394,000.
The 2025 increase builds on the current minimum wage of $10.45 per hour for non-tipped workers and $5.25 for tipped employees at businesses with more than $385,000 in gross receipts. The annual adjustment results from a Constitutional Amendment passed by Ohio voters in 2006, which ties minimum wage increases to inflation rates.
Employees at smaller businesses with gross receipts of $394,000 or less, as well as workers aged 14 and 15, will continue to earn the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, a rate that can only be changed with Congressional approval.
๐ฐ Lake County SWAT Standoff Ends Peacefully, Suspect in Custody
A five-hour standoff in Painesville Township ended peacefully early Tuesday morning with the arrest of 63-year-old Jeffry Wyman. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the incident began late Monday night when Wyman allegedly shot a 56-year-old woman inside a home on West Jackson Street around 10 p.m. He then refused to surrender, prompting the deployment of the Lake County Sheriffโs SWAT Team.
After hours of negotiation, Wyman surrendered peacefully at approximately 3:30 a.m. He has been charged with felonious assault and is being held at the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Jail, with the possibility of additional charges pending. The victim was initially taken to UH-Tripoint Medical Center before being airlifted to University Hospitals in Cleveland. Thankfully, her injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.

๐ Scotty Fox: Leading Mentorโs Undefeated Season as West Virginia Commit

Courtesy: WV Sports Now
Scotty Fox's rapid rise in the Mentor Cardinals football program is a story of resilience and growth. By his freshman year, Fox was unexpectedly thrust into a starting role after an injury to then-junior Jacob Snow. Despite the challenge of being a varsity quarterback so early, Fox has thrived under the guidance of Coach Matt Gray. Now a senior and committed to West Virginia, Fox has led the Cardinals to a 6-0 start, their best record since 2019.
Over the years, Foxโs performance has been impressive. In the current season, heโs thrown for 1,268 yards, 17 touchdowns, and just two interceptions, boasting a 61.6% completion rate. Mentor's success is closely tied to his growth, which began with a crash course in varsity football back in 2021. As a freshman, Fox was surrounded by a strong support system of senior players who helped him adjust.
In the years since, Fox has matured into a confident leader, both on and off the field. His leadership has been especially evident following his commitment to West Virginia in November of last year. As he developed physically into a 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback, he also became more attuned to his role as a motivator and strategist for the team. His top receivers, Justen Hodge and Austin VanHuss, have thrived alongside him, with both players also receiving Division I offers.
The teamโs success under Foxโs leadership brings to mind the legacy of other standout Mentor quarterbacks, like Mitchell Trubisky and Ian Kipp. Fox's ability to follow in their footsteps has only strengthened his bond with the program and its tradition of excellence. His growth as a player has been a steady and transformative process, making him one of the top prospects in the region.
