🌤️ Unseasonably Warm Start to the Week for Northeast Ohio

Northeast Ohio will continue to enjoy warm fall temperatures at the beginning of the workweek, with highs on Monday reaching the mid to upper 70s, and some areas nearing 80 degrees. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, no record-breaking temperatures are expected. The average high for this time of year in Cleveland is 62 degrees.

Tuesday will bring similar warmth, with mid to upper 70s once again, but a significant shift is expected midweek. By Wednesday evening, a cold front will move in, dropping temperatures significantly by Thursday to the mid to upper 50s. A brief chance of showers could occur as the front passes, though most areas are expected to stay dry.

After the cool-down, temperatures will gradually climb again heading into the weekend. Overall, the region can expect limited rainfall over the next eight days. Meanwhile, fall foliage is near its peak across much of Ohio, offering a colorful backdrop to the pleasant weather.

🪟 Easy DIY Guide: How to Replace Your Window Screen in Four Steps

Replacing a window screen is a simple DIY task that can be completed in just an hour with minimal tools. Whether your screen is ripped or worn out, replacing it yourself is an affordable option, typically costing under $100. The process involves removing the old screen, measuring and cutting a new one, and securing it into the frame before trimming away any excess mesh.

To begin, gather your materials. You'll need basic tools like a flathead screwdriver, screen roller, scissors, utility knife, and some clamps. You’ll also need spline, which is vinyl cording that holds the screen in place, and a roll of mesh screening. The type of mesh you choose can vary depending on your needs. Aluminum screens are durable but tricky to install, fiberglass screens are easier to work with but less sturdy, and pet screens, made from vinyl-coated polyester, are ideal for homes with animals.

Here’s a simple four-step guide for replacing your window screen:

Step 1: Remove the Old Screen Start by popping the screen frame out of the window. The screen is held in place by a spline, which can be pried loose with a flathead screwdriver. Once the spline is removed, discard the old screen but keep a section of the spline to use as a size guide for purchasing a new one.

Step 2: Measure and Cut the New Screen Unroll your new mesh and cut a piece slightly larger than the window frame. Ensure it has enough extra material around the edges to allow for adjustment. Use scissors to trim the corners at 45-degree angles to prevent bunching.

Step 3: Secure the Screen Using the screen roller, press the new screen into the frame’s groove. Then push the spline into the same groove, securing the screen in place. After completing two sides, test the tension by placing a 4-pound object, like a brick, on the screen. If it holds without sagging, secure the remaining sides.

Step 4: Trim the Excess Mesh Once the screen is firmly in place, trim the excess mesh with a utility knife, being careful not to cut the spline.

If you only have a small tear in the screen, consider patching it instead of replacing the entire thing. Options for small repairs include traditional patches, screen repair tape, heat-activated patches, or even clear nail polish for tiny holes.
