❄️ Arctic Chill Brings Snow to Northeast Ohio

An Arctic air mass continues to dominate the region, bringing frigid temperatures and lake-effect snow focused on northeast Ohio. Snowfall totals could exceed two inches where bands persist. After a cold and blustery day with highs of 18 to 22 degrees, clearing skies this evening will drop temperatures into the single digits before overnight clouds bring them back to the teens. A warm front arriving tomorrow will bring widespread snow, with 1 to 4 inches expected throughout the day.

📊 Mentor Retail Market Offers Stability and Opportunity as 2024 Ends

City of Mentor

The Cleveland region's retail market held steady in the final quarter of 2024, with key data from CoStar highlighting trends across eight counties—Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Portage, Medina, and Summit. The market comprises roughly 202 million square feet of retail space, and the overall vacancy rate remained unchanged at 4.3% in Q4 2024, up slightly from 4.1% in the same period in 2023.

In Lake County, which includes around 18 million square feet of retail space across 1,426 buildings, the vacancy rate improved, dropping by 0.1% to 4.5% for Q4 2024. This represents a more notable decrease from the 5.3% rate recorded a year earlier. The City of Mentor, accounting for 43% of Lake County’s retail space with 7.9 million square feet, continues to see stable occupancy rates. Mentor’s retail vacancy rate held steady at 6.6% from Q3 to Q4 2024, although it increased slightly from 6.4% in Q4 2023.

The largest available retail properties in Mentor include a 104,454-square-foot space on Market Street, a 69,770-square-foot site on Plaza Boulevard, and a 64,500-square-foot location on Mentor Avenue. These figures underscore the area's overall stability while reflecting opportunities for prospective tenants.

This analysis, released by the City of Mentor's Planning and Development Department in January 2025, paints a picture of a largely stable retail market with pockets of ongoing improvement, particularly in Lake County.

Make 2025 Your Year to Thrive—Embrace Our New Year - New You Glowing Skin Plan!

🌞 Small Changes, Big Impact: Five Health Tips for the New Year

In an age where self-improvement often feels like a never-ending cycle, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, as we embark on 2025, focusing on small, science-backed habits can make a significant difference in both physical and mental well-being. Here are five simple yet powerful steps to start the new year on the right foot.

1. Get Morning Sunlight
Exposing yourself to natural light within the first hour or two of waking can do wonders for your health. This practice triggers a timely cortisol release, improving focus, metabolism, immune function, and preparing your body for better sleep later in the day. During the darker winter months, a SAD lamp can replicate sunlight’s effects until you can step outside.

2. Prep Your Meals
Healthy eating often takes a backseat when life gets hectic. To stay on track, meal prepping is a game-changer. Preparing meals in bulk at the start of the week ensures you have nutritious options ready to go, especially during busy evenings. A little planning upfront can simplify your routine and support long-term health.

3. Add More Fiber to Your Diet
Despite its importance, over 90% of adults don’t consume enough fiber. Fiber is key to reducing the risk of diseases such as heart disease, type II diabetes, and colorectal cancer. It also stabilizes blood sugar levels and keeps you feeling full longer. Aim for 30g a day by incorporating foods like artichokes, beans, whole grains, onions, and chia seeds into your meals.

4. Take Post-Meal Walks
A brisk walk after eating has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, reducing fatigue and mood swings. Beyond its physical benefits, walking can also improve mental well-being and spark creativity. Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity to unplug from screens and reconnect with your surroundings.

5. Practice Intentional Breathing
Breathing is automatic, but practicing mindful techniques can significantly reduce stress. The "box breathing" method—inhaling, holding, and exhaling for counts of four—activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping you feel calm and focused. This relaxation response also supports digestion and immune function, making it a simple yet effective tool for overall health.

By integrating these small but impactful habits into your daily routine, you can set yourself up for a healthier, more balanced 2025.

🏀 Cleveland Bounces Back to Beat Indiana, Extends NBA Lead

The Cleveland Cavaliers secured a commanding 127-117 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night, led by a standout performance from Donovan Mitchell, who scored 35 points. This win helped the Cavaliers maintain their position atop the NBA standings.

Supporting Mitchell's effort, Darius Garland contributed 24 points, while Evan Mobley added an impressive 22 points and 13 rebounds. On the Pacers' side, Pascal Siakam led with 23 points, while Bennedict Mathurin scored 19. Myles Turner added 17 points, but the team couldn’t extend its six-game winning streak.

Cleveland took control in the third quarter, breaking an 82-77 lead with a 10-0 run fueled by key three-pointers from Max Strus, Georges Niang, and Mobley. Despite a late rally that brought Indiana within five points, the Cavaliers maintained their composure, pulling away in the final minutes.

Tempers flared late in the game when Mathurin was ejected after receiving a second technical foul, allowing Cleveland to extend its lead further with free throws. The Pacers, who defeated the Cavaliers just two nights earlier to end their 12-game win streak, sorely missed All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton, sidelined with a groin injury.

The Cavaliers dominated the boards with a 49-37 rebounding advantage and limited Siakam to just two points in the second half. Indiana struggled without Haliburton’s playmaking, with his replacement, Ben Sheppard, managing just two assists on the night.

Cleveland now prepares for a showdown with the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, while the Pacers head to Detroit for their next game.
