🍝 Meals on Wheels in Urgent Need of Volunteers in Lake County

City of Mentor
The Lake County Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program is in urgent need of volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors and assist in the kitchen with meal preparation. With immediate openings available, volunteers are asked to commit to at least one day per week, Monday through Friday.
Kitchen helpers are needed each morning starting at 8 a.m. for three to four hours, while volunteer drivers deliver meals between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Last year alone, the program provided over 199,000 meals to seniors across Lake County, thanks to the dedication of volunteers.
As the demand for Meals on Wheels services continues to rise, more volunteers are essential to keep the program running smoothly. The opportunity is open to individuals, families, friends, and even community groups or businesses that want to adopt a delivery route.
Beyond delivering food, these visits provide a vital social connection for seniors who may otherwise experience isolation. Volunteers not only bring meals but also offer conversation, a friendly face, and a wellness check, ensuring the well-being of those they serve.

📰 ICE Raids in Northeast Ohio: 20 Arrested, Local Officials Left in the Dark
A series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across Northeast Ohio resulted in 20 people being taken into custody on Sunday. The individuals are being held at a facility in Chardon, but officials have not disclosed specific details about the locations of the arrests.
Federal agencies have remained silent on the matter, declining to provide any information about the operation. Cleveland Heights city officials stated they had no prior knowledge of or involvement in an alleged raid at Cilantro Taqueria, where community members claim multiple arrests took place. The restaurant’s owner confirmed that six employees were detained, prompting a temporary closure. Attorneys are working to secure their release.
The arrests follow a new directive from the Trump administration. Reports indicate that nearly 1,000 migrant arrests have already been made, with hundreds more detained.
Local organizations, including El Centro in Lorain, are mobilizing to support immigrant communities amid growing fear and uncertainty. Advocates are providing training sessions and reminding individuals to carry proper documentation and be aware of their rights.
The situation remains tense as residents and officials seek answers, but federal authorities have not provided any updates regarding the raids.

🛠️ Seasoned Handyman's Secrets to a Perfect Home Maintenance Schedule

Crafting Your Home Maintenance Schedule: A Handyman’s Guide
After 30 years in the trenches of home repair, I’ve seen my fair share of DIY disasters and maintenance mishaps. The key to avoiding these headaches? A solid home maintenance schedule. Here’s my blueprint for keeping your house in tip-top shape without breaking a sweat.
Start with the Basics: Begin by listing out all the maintenance tasks required for your home. This includes everything from quarterly HVAC inspections to annual roof checks. Don’t forget the little things like cleaning gutters and servicing your home appliances.
Organize by Frequency: Once you have your list, categorize tasks by frequency: monthly, quarterly, annually. For example, test smoke detectors monthly, check your water softener quarterly, and inspect your fireplace annually before winter.
Create a Calendar: Whether it’s a digital calendar or a physical one hanging in the utility room, having a visual reminder of upcoming tasks ensures you won’t forget. I like to set alerts a week before a task is due, giving me plenty of time to gather materials or call in a professional if needed.
Seasonal Checks: Align certain tasks with seasons for efficiency. Clean and service the AC in spring, check the deck and outdoor areas in summer, prepare your home for winter in fall, and tackle indoor repairs during the colder months.
Document Everything: Keep a maintenance log. This can be as simple as a notebook or a spreadsheet. Record each task completed and note any repairs or replacements. This log will be invaluable for troubleshooting problems or if you ever decide to sell your home.
Stay Flexible: Even the best plans need adjusting. If you notice something off during a routine check, don’t wait. Addressing issues immediately can prevent costly repairs later on.
With these steps, you’ll maintain not just the functionality and beauty of your home but also its value. Remember, regular maintenance is less costly than major repairs. Keep at it, and your home will take care of you just as you take care of it.

🏀 Cavaliers Cruise Past Pistons, Snap Three-Game Losing Streak
The Cleveland Cavaliers snapped their three-game losing streak with a commanding 110-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Darius Garland led the charge with 22 points, while Donovan Mitchell contributed 21, helping Cleveland maintain its stronghold at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland, which improved to 22-3 at home, secured its 11th consecutive win over Detroit. The game also marked the Cavaliers' second victory over their former head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, now leading the Pistons.
Jarrett Allen added 15 points, and Evan Mobley grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cavs, who played without key rotational players Caris LeVert, Isaac Okoro, and Dean Wade due to injuries. Head coach Kenny Atkinson provided no immediate timeline for Wade’s return.
Detroit struggled offensively outside of Cade Cunningham, who scored 22 points, and Malik Beasley, who added 19. Jalen Duren recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, but the Pistons’ starting forwards had a tough night, making just one of their 15 shot attempts.
A pivotal moment in the third quarter saw Mobley recover his own missed shot and deliver a sharp pass to Mitchell, who drained a three-pointer to extend Cleveland’s lead to 77-62, putting the game out of reach.
Despite leading the league in three-point percentage, the Cavaliers had an off night from deep, hitting just 12 of 44 attempts. However, their defensive intensity and efficiency in other areas secured the much-needed win.
Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Miami to take on the Heat.
