📰 Freezing Rain Could Impact Thursday Morning Commute

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Thursday morning as freezing rain moves into the region. Ice accumulation between 0.1 to 0.2 inches is expected across most areas, with some locations in higher terrain potentially seeing up to 0.25 inches.

Untreated roads and surfaces may become slick and hazardous, making for a dangerous Thursday morning commute. If ice accumulations reach higher levels, there could be minor tree damage and isolated power outages.

Drivers are urged to use caution and stay updated on road conditions.

📰 $130K Makeover in Mentor at Lake Humane Society Aims to Improve Animal Welfare

The Lake Humane Society and Adoption Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate $130,000 in renovations aimed at improving conditions for animals and staff. Funded by Carver Financial Services, the project included new kennels, a dog washing station, fresh paint, and upgraded flooring. Local businesses, including Platform Construction, played key roles in the effort, reflecting strong community support.

📰 WWII Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient Turns 100, Reflects on Service and Giving Back

Here in Mentor, surrounded by loved ones, Bob Zonneville recently marked his 100th birthday with a grand celebration. A World War II veteran, Zonneville served in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, and Germany. Proud of his service, he never leaves home without his WWII hat, but he hopes to be remembered just as much for his dedication to helping others.

Beyond his military career, Zonneville spent years volunteering at a hospice, believing that "helping others is more important than anything else." His family considers him an inspiration, with his granddaughter, Adrienne Zonneville, describing him as a role model who encourages them to do the right thing and give back to the community.

After returning from the war, Zonneville pursued a career in trucking, eventually retiring as a CEO at 80. Even then, he wasn’t ready to slow down. At 86, he enrolled at Lakeland Community College, graduating at 88 as the school's oldest-ever graduate.

His active lifestyle continues, as he still drives his great-grandkids to their activities. He reflects on his long life with gratitude and humor, admitting he’s had his fair share of fun and lucky escapes. As for his next goal? With a smile, he says, “Live to be 101.”

💥 Third earthquake in a week recorded near Reno, Ohio

Residents in Reno, Ohio, felt yet another tremor Tuesday evening, marking the third earthquake in a week for the region. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the latest quake struck 1.5 miles east-northeast of Reno at approximately 8:12 p.m., registering a 2.4 magnitude at a depth of 6.9 miles.

This follows two previous earthquakes in the area. On Monday, a 2.8 magnitude quake occurred near Reno just two hours after a separate 2.2 magnitude quake shook Oak Hill in Jackson County. The first tremor in this recent series happened last week, also measuring 2.2 magnitude near Reno.

Experts attribute this seismic activity to active fault lines in the Ohio River Valley, which are influenced by the ongoing pressure from the Pacific and Atlantic tectonic plates. While these earthquakes have been relatively minor, they highlight the region's susceptibility to geological shifts.

🐶 Wheelchair Musher Blazes Trails in Northeast Ohio with His Sled Dogs

Photo: Don Wheeler / Greater Cleveland Siberian Husky Club

Speeding along Northeast Ohio’s trails, Don Wheeler experiences the thrill of mushing with his two huskies, Dash and Gabby. Partially paralyzed since a motorcycle accident in 2004, he discovered wheelchair mushing in 2019, adapting a custom rig with specialized ganglines, brackets, and interchangeable tires or skis. From September to March, he takes his dogs on long-distance runs, logging nearly 1,000 miles over the years.

Wheeler shares his journeys on his Team Dash YouTube channel, posting videos of his snowy adventures, night rides, and off-road challenges. He also creates instructional content on training and safety, having developed his own system since neither of his dogs had prior mushing experience. Despite one minor fall in 2023, his careful approach has kept the sport safe for both him and his dogs.

His journey began with the Greater Cleveland Siberian Husky Club, where he connected with mushers and sought advice from experts, including an Iditarod racer. Initially, some dog owners hesitated to sell him a husky due to his disability, but he eventually adopted Dash, training him as both a sled dog and a service animal. Gabby later joined the team, allowing him to travel even farther.

Now, Wheeler hopes to introduce wheelchair mushing to veterans through the Cleveland VA and eventually see it recognized as a Paralympic sport. For him, Dash and Gabby are more than sled dogs—they’re his companions, service animals, and partners in adventure.

🏀 Cavs Fall to Celtics on Tuesday, Then Stun Pistons with Garland’s Buzzer-Beater on Wednesday

The Cavaliers struggled offensively in a 112-105 loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. Cleveland fell behind by 20 in the second quarter and, despite a late rally, couldn’t overcome poor three-point shooting. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 31 points, while Darius Garland finished with 25 after a slow start. Evan Mobley struggled, scoring just 7 points on 3-of-14 shooting. Jayson Tatum and Derrick White led Boston with 22 and 20 points, respectively.

Cleveland’s lack of depth at the wing and difficulties against small-ball lineups were exposed, with Georges Niang struggling defensively in extended minutes. The loss marked their fourth straight against top teams from both conferences.

The Cavs rebounded on Wednesday with a thrilling 118-115 win over the Pistons, as Garland hit a deep three at the buzzer. Playing without Mitchell, Cleveland held off a late surge from Cade Cunningham, who scored 9 points in the final 11 seconds. Mobley had a dominant 30-point performance, while Cunningham led all scorers with 38. The Cavs now turn their attention to Friday’s game against Washington.
