🛋️ Why Your Electricity Bill Will Be Higher Starting June 2025

Electric customers in Ohio and 12 other states in the PJM Interconnection region will see higher electricity bills starting June 2025. This increase follows a June 2024 capacity auction held by PJM, which resulted in an 800% surge in capacity prices. These changes will affect bills from June 2025 through May 2026.

What is Capacity?
Capacity is a fee included in the generation portion of your electric bill, ensuring power plants are ready to supply electricity during high-demand periods, like extreme heat or cold. These charges support grid reliability but result in higher costs for consumers.

Why Are Prices Increasing?
The sharp increase in capacity prices is due to factors like:

  • Growing electricity demand from population and economic growth.

  • Increased use of electronic devices and electric technologies.

  • More frequent extreme weather events, leading to energy spikes.

Impact on Electric Bills
For Ohio residents, the capacity price increase means an average rise of 10-15% in electricity costs, or about 2 cents more per kilowatt-hour (kWh). While it seems small, the cost adds up over the year.

Who Controls Capacity Prices?
Local providers, like NOPEC, don’t control capacity prices. These rates are set by PJM’s auctions and apply to all customers in the PJM region, including Ohio.

How Long Will Rates Stay High?
The higher rates are expected to last 3-5 years, until new electricity generation capacity is added to the grid.

How to Prepare for Higher Costs
To offset rising costs, households can reduce electricity usage by:

  • Investing in energy-efficient appliances, like ENERGY STAR-rated products.

  • Installing smart thermostats.

  • Improving home insulation and sealing drafts.

  • Considering renewable energy options, such as solar panels.

  • Conducting an energy audit to spot areas for savings.

  • Adopting energy-saving habits, like turning off unused lights, unplugging devices, and using appliances during off-peak hours.

🧼 House Cleaning Services 101: What to Expect and How to Choose

Between work, shuttling kids to school and practice, and running daily errands, keeping the house clean can feel like an uphill battle. That’s where a house cleaning service can step in to help. Whether you need regular maintenance or an occasional deep clean, hiring professionals can be a game changer for your home and peace of mind.

Services You Can Expect from a House Cleaner
House cleaning services can be customized to meet your needs. While some companies stick to standard cleaning tasks, others offer add-ons like laundry or window washing. You can prioritize specific areas, such as focusing more on the kitchen or deep-cleaning the bathrooms.

Typical services include:

  • Cleaning floors (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming)

  • Dusting surfaces, baseboards, and decor

  • Cleaning kitchens, including countertops and appliances

  • Scrubbing bathrooms (shower, toilet, sink, mirror)

  • Tidying bedrooms and changing linens

  • Cleaning windows

Understanding the Difference: House Cleaner vs. Housekeeper
A house cleaner and a housekeeper are not the same, although their roles can overlap. A housekeeper often visits multiple times a week and focuses on daily tasks like tidying, folding laundry, and basic cleaning. In contrast, house cleaners typically come less frequently and handle more intensive cleaning jobs. First-time customers may be required to schedule a deep clean to set a baseline.

Here’s a quick comparison:

  • House Cleaner: Offers occasional or regular deep cleaning.

  • Housekeeper: Provides ongoing daily or weekly household maintenance.

How Often Should You Schedule a Cleaning Service?
The most popular cleaning schedule is bi-weekly because it strikes a balance between cost and convenience. Some homeowners prefer weekly service for a consistently pristine home, while others opt for monthly or one-time cleanings for special occasions. Keep in mind that less frequent visits may cost more due to the extra time needed for a thorough cleaning.

Questions to Ask Before Hiring
To find the right cleaning service for your needs, here are some essential questions to ask:

  • Do you provide your own cleaning supplies? Most companies do, but housekeepers may expect you to provide them.

  • What are your fees? Cleaning services may charge by the hour, per visit, or based on the size of your home.

  • Can you share references or reviews? This can give you a better sense of their reputation and reliability.

By taking these steps and finding a service that fits your schedule and budget, you can keep your home spotless without the stress. Whether you want a sparkling kitchen or a pristine bathroom, a professional cleaning service can deliver exactly what you need.

🏀 Cleveland Pounces Early, Tames Wolves in 128-107 Rout

The Cavaliers turned Monday night into a masterclass, dismantling the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-107 in a game that was decided almost before it began.

Cleveland raced to a 16-0 lead as Minnesota missed their first 16 shots, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Evan Mobley led the charge with 28 points, while Donovan Mitchell added an efficient 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting.

The game marked De'Andre Hunter's Cavaliers debut, with the recent Atlanta acquisition contributing 12 points in his start. Despite Anthony Edwards' valiant 44-point effort for Minnesota, the Timberwolves never got closer than 15 points after the early Cleveland surge.

Jarrett Allen quietly added a double-double (14 points, 13 rebounds) as the Cavaliers improved their impressive home record to 25-4. The win continued a telling trend: Cleveland is now 21-3 when Mobley scores 20 or more points. The Cavaliers will now head to Toronto for their final pre-All Star break game.
