🚶♀️➡️ Exercise May Slow Aging by Reducing Harmful Cells, Says Mayo Clinic

Exercise Can Slow Aging by Reducing Harmful Cells, Mayo Clinic Study Finds
As people age, staying active can become more challenging. Joint pain, fatigue, and other physical limitations often discourage regular exercise. However, a new study from the Mayo Clinic suggests that physical activity may do more than just improve fitness—it can help reduce the buildup of senescent cells, which contribute to age-related conditions.
Dr. Nathan LeBrasseur, director of the Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging, emphasizes the importance of prioritizing movement as we age. Research shows that even small increases in daily activity can lower the burden of these aging cells, leading to better overall health.
Why Staying Active Matters
Many older adults adopt sedentary lifestyles, which can accelerate aging and increase the risk of chronic diseases. Dr. LeBrasseur encourages incorporating both aerobic and strength exercises to combat this. Simple activities like walking, cycling, swimming, or light strength training can help maintain muscle, bone health, and cognitive function.
Adding just 30 minutes of exercise per day can bring multiple benefits, including:
✔ Weight control
✔ Increased energy levels
✔ Improved cognitive function
✔ Better sleep quality
While there is no magic cure to stop aging, regular exercise can significantly slow its effects and promote long-term health.

🥎 Lady Cardinals To Take on Austintown-Fitch in Tough Season Opener
After a successful 18-9 season last year, Mentor’s Lady Cardinals Softball team is gearing up for the start of their new season. They warmed up with a 4-4 scrimmage tie against Willoughby South yesterday, showing early signs of offensive power.
Ireland Rainey led the way at the plate with a double, a home run, and two RBIs, while Maddie Menough added two doubles and an RBI to help fuel the offense.
Mentor officially kicks off the season on March 22 against a formidable opponent—Austintown-Fitch. The reigning Division I state champions are coming off a 23-1 season, having won back-to-back state titles. Last year, they defeated the Lady Cardinals, making this an early-season test for Mentor.
With a strong roster and momentum from last season, Mentor looks to make a statement as they take the field in just a few days.
🏀 Kawhi Leonard’s 33 Leads Clippers Past East-Leading Cavaliers
The Clippers defeated the Cavaliers 132-119 on Tuesday night, with Kawhi Leonard (33 points), Ivica Zubac (28 points, 19 rebounds), and James Harden (22 points, 9 assists) leading the way. The Cavs, who had won 16 straight before Sunday, started strong but couldn’t hold off a Clippers rally, highlighted by a 20-3 run in the second half. Despite the loss, Cleveland still leads the East, while the Clippers extended their winning streak to four games.
Cavaliers visit Sacramento on Wednesday to complete a back-to-back.
