🚨 Mentor Police Investigate Credit Card Skimming Device Found at Local Gas Station

One example of a skimmer - there are differing styles
Mentor Police are urging residents to remain vigilant after a credit card skimming device was discovered at the BP gas station located at 5711 Heisley Road. Authorities have recovered the illegal device and are currently investigating its source. At this time, it is unknown whether any personal or financial information was compromised.
Credit card skimming devices are small and often difficult to detect. They are illegally attached to legitimate card readers at locations such as gas pumps, ATMs, or retail point-of-sale terminals. Once a card is swiped through the rigged reader, the device captures the data stored on the magnetic stripe. Criminals then use this data to make fraudulent purchases or access accounts.
Police advise consumers to take precautions before using any card reader. Warning signs of a skimmer include misalignment between the card slot and surrounding panel, protruding parts, or arrows and icons being partially covered. When possible, compare the card reader to others nearby for inconsistencies.
Residents who believe they have discovered a skimming device or have concerns about card reader tampering are encouraged to contact the Mentor Police Department immediately.

PUCO Schedules Public Hearings on FirstEnergy Rate Increase Request
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has announced three in-person public hearings where consumers can voice their opinions on FirstEnergy’s proposed rate increase. These hearings provide an opportunity for residents to speak directly to PUCO Commissioners before a final decision is made.

Toledo: Monday, April 14, 2025, at 6 p.m. – Board of Lucas County Commissioners, One Government Center, Suite 800 (Toledo, OH 43604).
Public testimony given at these hearings will become part of the official record, which PUCO must consider before making its final ruling on the rate increase request.

📙 Legacy of Ralph King Lives on Through Art, Philanthropy, and Lake County Landmarks

City of Mentor
At the turn of the 20th century, the Realty Investment Company stood as the largest holder of downtown Cleveland real estate, guided by its influential president, Ralph King. Like many elite businessmen of the era, King chose to retreat from city life at a Lake County estate—his was called “The Pinery,” nestled at the end of Little Mountain Road.
King’s impact extended far beyond real estate. A passionate philanthropist, he played key roles in Cleveland’s cultural and educational development. He served as a trustee for both Western Reserve University and the Western Reserve Historical Society. His most prominent contribution, however, was to the Cleveland Museum of Art, where he acted as vice president and one of its most significant patrons. Alongside his wife, he donated 870 pieces to the museum’s collection, including Auguste Rodin’s iconic sculpture, The Thinker.
Although Ralph King passed away in 1926, his influence remains present throughout the region. In 1928, in recognition of his service and contributions, local officials in Lake and Geauga counties renamed Blish Road to King Highway—a name that eventually evolved into today’s King Memorial Road.

⚾ Tanner Bibee Tapped as Opening Day Starter, Ending Guardians’ Decade-Long Pitching Tradition
Tanner Bibee Named Opening Day Starter as Guardians Gear Up for 2025 Season
The Cleveland Guardians have officially announced Tanner Bibee as their Opening Day starter for the 2025 season. This marks the first time since 2014 that someone other than Corey Kluber or Shane Bieber will take the mound to open the season for the club—an honor that Bibee has certainly earned through his recent performance.
Fans are already showing their excitement, with the Guardians’ Home Opener on Tuesday, April 8th officially sold out. However, standing-room-only and Ballpark Pass tickets remain available for those still hoping to catch the action at Progressive Field.
In roster news, infielder Kyle Datres has joined the organization on a minor league deal. The 29-year-old third baseman was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Last season, he spent the bulk of his time with the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats, finishing with a .226 batting average, .343 on-base percentage, and .394 slugging.
Spring Training is winding down, and the Guardians closed out their final split-squad games of the preseason, both ending in losses. Meanwhile, Rule 5 Draft selection Christian Cairo will be returning to the Cleveland organization after a stint with the Atlanta Braves.
Off the field, Guardians top prospect Travis Bazzana offered insight into his mindset and development in a recent feature. The organization continues to show a knack for scouting players who possess both skill and strong character.
Scouting reports from Keith Law of The Athletic highlighted several key Guardians prospects, including Welbyn Francisca, Jaison Chourio, Ralphy Velazquez, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Juneiker Caceres—players who could shape the franchise’s future.
