📰 Mentor Parents Rally Against Bullying, Call for District Reform
Tensions are rising in Mentor as parents voice growing frustration over how bullying is being handled within the local school district. On Sunday, dozens of families gathered to hold a public meeting, urging school leaders to take stronger, more meaningful action to address what they describe as a widespread and persistent problem.
While bullying itself is at the center of their concern, parents say the larger issue lies in how the district responds—both in supporting affected students and disciplining those responsible. Many described a lack of accountability and inadequate consequences, with one example pointing to a student receiving just 20 minutes of lost lunch time following a severe incident.
Parents also expressed dissatisfaction with teachers’ and counselors’ handling of bullying reports, suggesting that the current school culture—from the classroom to the administration—fails to provide students with the protection and empathy they need. Several shared stories of children feeling unsafe or retaliating to avoid being targeted, further contributing to a harmful cycle.
The district's superintendent acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating the need for open dialogue and collaborative problem-solving to foster a safer environment. Efforts are underway through committee work, though many families say change has been too slow or insufficient.

🚫 Mentor Council Bans Short-Term Rentals Across All Zoning Districts
Mentor Council Bans Short-Term Rentals Citywide
Mentor City Council has passed an ordinance banning all short-term housing rentals across the city’s zoning districts. The 6-1 vote follows months of discussion, public input, and concerns about unregulated rentals operating without permits.
While many urged council to allow regulated rentals, the decision was made to enact a full prohibition. Also, there has been no clear state guidance on the issue.
Although short-term rentals are popular within the city, officials prioritized neighborhood stability and zoning consistency in their decision to ban them outright.

🏠 Pending Home Sales See Modest Rise in February, Led by Southern Markets
Pending Home Sales Edge Up in February; NAR Predicts Market Growth in 2025
Pending home sales rose 2.0% in February, driven by gains in the South and Midwest, according to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). Despite the increase, activity remains below historic levels, with contract signings down 3.6% year-over-year.
The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking measure based on contract signings, reached 72.0 in February. Regionally, the South posted a strong 6.2% gain, while the West saw a 3.0% decline. The Northeast also slipped slightly, while the Midwest experienced a modest increase.
High mortgage rates and the “rate lock-in effect” continue to limit housing supply, as current homeowners hesitate to sell. Still, NAR sees signs of improvement ahead.
The association forecasts mortgage rates to average 6.4% in 2025, with existing-home sales rising 6% and new-home sales jumping 10%. Home prices are expected to grow by 3%. Further growth is anticipated in 2026, with sales and prices continuing to climb as rates dip slightly and wage growth improves affordability.
According to NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun, more inventory and rising incomes could help ease affordability concerns, setting the stage for a more active housing market in the years ahead.

🥍 Mentor Girls Lacrosse Dominates Holy Name in 17-5 Victory
The Mentor Cardinals girls lacrosse team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, overpowering the Holy Name Green Wave with a 17-5 victory. The Cardinals set the tone early, erupting for 12 goals in the first period and maintaining control for the remainder of the match.
Leading the offensive surge was Ella Predina, who notched five goals and showcased her versatility by dominating the draw circle as well. Ava Lee added four goals, while Abby Harps and Sydney Fink each contributed three. Olivia Harper and Macie Finnegan chipped in with one goal apiece, rounding out a well-distributed scoring effort.
In addition to her scoring, Fink proved effective on the draw, winning eight with a .800 win percentage. Predina also controlled the midfield, securing five draw wins and posting an impressive 1.667 win ratio.
Sophomore goaltender Sammy McGinnis held down the net for the full 48 minutes, making three saves on eight shots and earning the win between the pipes.
With this victory, Mentor improves to 2-1 on the season and will take on St. Joseph Academy on April 1. Ella Predina earned Player of the Game honors for her standout all-around performance.
🏀 Cavaliers Hit 60 Wins After Holding Off Clippers in Thriller
The Cleveland Cavaliers secured a thrilling 127-122 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon, led by strong performances from Jarrett Allen and Donovan Mitchell. Allen posted 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Mitchell added 24 points, 12 rebounds, and narrowly missed a triple-double with seven assists.
Evan Mobley played a key role as well, contributing 22 points, including 15 in a pivotal third quarter that helped Cleveland regain momentum after a brief Clippers surge. The Cavaliers improved to a 60-15 record, marking just the third time in franchise history they’ve reached the 60-win mark—and the first time since the 2009-10 season. They now sit 4.5 games ahead of Boston for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Norman Powell led the charge for the Clippers with 34 points, including a dominant 24-point first half. James Harden added 24 points, but the absence of Kawhi Leonard, sidelined due to right knee management, left a noticeable gap in Los Angeles' lineup.
Despite trailing by as much as 18 in the fourth quarter, the Clippers rallied in the final minutes, cutting the deficit to just three with 19 seconds left. However, Cleveland held firm, with Darius Garland sinking key free throws and Mitchell sealing the win with a late-game steal.
Amir Coffey exited early for the Clippers due to knee soreness after just four minutes of play.
The Cavaliers prepare to host the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
