⚾ Play Ball! Guardians to Honor Legends and Heroes at Today’s Home Opener
Cleveland is gearing up for a memorable day at Progressive Field as the Guardians kick off their 2025 home season TODAY, April 8, against the Chicago White Sox. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m., with gates opening early at 2 p.m. and pregame festivities beginning at 3:30 p.m.
This marks the Guardians’ 32nd Home Opener at Progressive Field and promises a blend of tradition, tribute, and Ohio pride. Fans can expect a packed schedule of ceremonial moments highlighting both local heroes and baseball legends.
Ohio State football standout and College Football Champion Jack Sawyer will take the mound for the ceremonial first pitch, throwing to Steve Colavito in honor of his father, Cleveland legend Rocky Colavito. The tribute continues with the family of Frank Robinson, who made history 50 years ago as the first Black manager in Major League Baseball. His wife and daughter will present the game’s lineup card to mark the anniversary of his debut on April 8, 1975.
Adding to the ceremonial lineup, the official game ball will be delivered to the mound by Lawrence John “Jack” Dolan, the grandson of former Guardians owner Larry Dolan, honoring the Dolan family's contributions to the franchise.
The national anthem will be performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra’s string section, accompanied by a full military Color Guard representing all six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. A dramatic flyover by the 910th Airlift Wing from Youngstown, featuring the C130H Hercules aircraft, will punctuate the performance. Guardians staff and their families will display a large American flag across the field during the anthem.
Beyond the on-field ceremonies, downtown Cleveland will be buzzing. DJ Kyro will provide music in the Right Field District starting at gate opening, while the Gateway Plaza will be alive with entertainment including face painting, airbrush art, and photo opportunities from 1 to 3 p.m.
A special moment of recognition is also planned for Dorian Pace, the heroic Cleveland Heights school bus driver who saved 15 children from a burning bus earlier this year.
With the Guardians’ Home Opener and a Cavaliers game happening downtown the same evening, fans are urged to arrive early and plan for traffic delays.

🏠 Crawl Space Insulation 101: Boost Comfort, Cut Energy Costs

Insulating your crawl space is a smart investment that can lead to improved energy efficiency, lower utility bills, and a more comfortable home. By creating a thermal barrier beneath your floors, insulation helps maintain indoor temperatures, prevents frozen pipes, and reduces the risk of mold and mildew. It also protects the home’s structure from moisture-related damage.
Choosing the right insulation material is key. Closed-cell spray foam is often ideal for crawl spaces thanks to its moisture resistance and ability to seal gaps. Rigid foam panels like XPS or polyisocyanurate also work well, offering high insulation value and easy installation. Fiberglass batts, although common, are typically not recommended for crawl spaces due to their tendency to absorb moisture unless installed in a sealed, dry area.
For vented crawl spaces, start by clearing debris, fixing any moisture issues, and then installing either closed-cell spray foam or rigid foam panels between joists. Sealing is crucial—use appropriate tape and spray foam to close gaps, and finish by laying a 6-mil or thicker plastic vapor barrier on the floor, sealing it to the walls for complete coverage.
Unvented crawl spaces require wall insulation rather than ceiling coverage. Spray foam or rigid panels should be attached to cleaned, dry walls. A continuous moisture barrier is created by sealing the floor with plastic sheeting that extends up the walls, with all seams taped for airtight protection.
Concrete walls follow a similar method, using construction adhesive to apply rigid foam panels directly to the surface, then sealing all gaps with expanding foam.
Before beginning any insulation project, check your local building codes. Many areas specify minimum R-values and fire safety standards. Unvented crawl spaces may also require integration with your home’s HVAC system to meet code.
Proper crawl space insulation ensures energy savings, better indoor comfort, and long-term protection for your home.
