š± City of Mentor Retires Official App, Encourages WENS Alert Sign-Ups
The City of Mentor has officially deactivated its mobile app for Apple and Android devices. Originally launched in 2015, the app was designed to offer residents a streamlined way to access city information already available on the cityās website. Over the years, as technology evolved and better communication tools emerged, the app became outdated and redundant.
One of the appās core featuresāits push notification systemāwas replaced in 2020 by the Lake County Emergency Management Agencyās Wireless Emergency Alert System (WENS). This modern alert service allows residents to receive timely notifications via text, email, or voice message related to severe weather, emergencies, road closures, and other important community updates. Residents are encouraged to sign up for WENS.
For anyone who still has the City of Mentor app installed on their device, the recommendation is simpleādelete it. Instead, for quick and easy access to city information, residents can add the official websiteāwww.cityofmentor.comāto their home screen using their mobile browser settings.
Itās worth noting that the Mentor Channel App remains active and is still available for download via www.thementorchannel.com, offering on-demand access to local programming and updates.

šŖ Intermittent Fasting: A Smarter Way to Eat? Pros, Cons & New Wellness Trends
A deep dive into how time-restricted eating impacts your health and metabolism
Intermittent fasting (IF) has grown from a niche dietary approach into a mainstream wellness strategy embraced by millions. Whether itās the 16:8 method (16 hours of fasting, 8 hours of eating), alternate-day fasting, or the 5:2 plan (five days of normal eating, two days of calorie restriction), this flexible style of eating continues to evolveāand for good reason.
The Pros At its core, intermittent fasting (IF) simplifies nutrition. It naturally reduces caloric intake, improves insulin sensitivity, supports metabolic health, and promotes fat loss while preserving lean muscle. Intermittent fasting (IF) can also reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, supporting long-term brain and heart health. Many people report improved focus, better energy levels, and more consistent sleep.
The Cons However, itās not for everyone. Some individuals experience fatigue, irritability, or an increase in disordered eating behaviors. Skipping breakfast or eating within a narrow window may disrupt blood sugar balance, especially for those with diabetes, high stress levels, or thyroid issues. Women, in particular, may need to adjust fasting windows based on hormonal needs.
Whatās New Recent trends in IF focus more on quality over quantity. Experts now encourage pairing fasting with whole, nutrient-dense foods, avoiding the trap of āeating anythingā during the eating window. Time-restricted eating synced with circadian rhythms (eating earlier in the day) is also gaining attention for maximizing metabolic benefits.
Bottom Line Intermittent fasting is not a magic bullet, but it can be a powerful tool when used wisely. Listen to your body. Start slowly. Stay hydrated. Prioritize nutrition. And most importantly, focus on long-term healthānot quick fixes.
Fasting isnāt just about when you eatāit's about building a sustainable relationship with food. If youāre ready to take charge of your health, IF might be worth a tryābut always check with your healthcare provider first.
