📰 Lake County’s Largest Indoor Garage Sale Returns Today!

Mentor Senior Center - Indoor Garage Sale

Lake County residents are gearing up for one of the year's most anticipated community events—the largest indoor garage sale in the area, returning this Saturday, April 26. Hosted by the Lake County Senior Center, the event promises a full day of bargain-hunting and treasure-finding, with doors opening promptly at 9 a.m.

More than 70 vendors will be on-site, offering an eclectic mix of garage sale items—from household goods and collectibles to clothing, decor, and more. The event is completely free and open to the public, making it an ideal outing for families, thrifters, and curious shoppers alike.

Vendor spaces for the event have officially sold out, signaling strong community interest and participation. Organizers are also urging the public to be cautious of scams, warning attendees not to purchase tables or space from individuals online or through Facebook. All official vendor registrations are handled exclusively through the Senior Center.

The garage sale runs until 3 p.m., giving shoppers a six-hour window to browse, bargain, and buy.

🍝 End the Week Strong With This Simple Orecchiette Recipe

PHOTO: Jeanine and Jack - loveandlemons.com

As the week winds down, it’s time for pasta! Pasta is always a win: it’s easy, fun, and a great way to use up leftover vegetables. I went with orecchiette for this recipe, a pasta shape that pairs wonderfully with ingredients like broccoli and sausage. Though I skipped the sausage here, I love how orecchiette scoops up chickpeas and complements the round Brussels sprouts. Let’s get cooking!

🏈 Draft Haul: Browns Land Graham, Judkins, Fannin and More After Big Trade

The Cleveland Browns are already seeing big returns from their recent draft-night trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. On April 24, they traded the second overall pick, which Jacksonville used on Colorado’s Travis Hunter, in exchange for the fifth pick, pick 36, and a 2026 first-rounder. Cleveland selected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham at No. 5 and Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins at No. 36.

The Browns continued to add depth on April 25, drafting Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. with the 67th pick and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel at No. 94. Though Shedeur Sanders was available, Cleveland opted for Gabriel, who will learn behind Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.

Fannin, a Canton native, had 117 receptions for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. General Manager Andrew Berry praised his versatility, calling him “the queen on the chess board.”

Graham and Judkins are expected to start in 2025. Judkins’ arrival creates uncertainty around veteran Nick Chubb’s future after his injury-plagued 2024 season. Judkins, known for his toughness and goal-line prowess, totaled 45 rushing touchdowns in college and is seen as a perfect fit for Cleveland’s offensive style.

In the second round, the Browns also drafted UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger with the 33rd pick. Schwesinger impressed with 136 tackles and four sacks during his senior season and could fill a crucial need with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah recovering from a neck injury.

Fannin offers much-needed depth behind tight end David Njoku, though he will need to improve against press coverage. Scouts praise his reliable hands and ability to make plays after the catch.

Cleveland has three more picks left in the draft: Nos. 126, 166, and 192.

⚾ Kennedy’s Complete-Game Gem Powers Mentor Past Brunswick, 3-0

The Mentor Cardinals varsity boys baseball team earned a 3-0 shutout victory over the Brunswick Blue Devils in a conference matchup, thanks to a dominant performance on the mound from Peter Kennedy. Kennedy pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out four over seven shutout innings.

Offensively, Mentor did just enough to secure the win, managing two hits and drawing a couple of walks. Jake McCartney led the way at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and driving in two runs. Jack Vanhimbergen added an RBI with a sacrifice fly despite going hitless.

With the win, Mentor improves to 10-2 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 6-0. The Cardinals are back in action today at noon, hosting North Royalton (6-5) at home.

⚾ Lake Catholic Stays Perfect With Back-to-Back Wins Over Gilmour Academy

The Lake Catholic Cougars boys varsity baseball team kept their undefeated season alive with back-to-back non-conference wins over Gilmour Academy, winning 8-2 and 4-0.

In the first game, the Cougars set the tone early, building a 5-1 lead after two innings. The middle of the lineup fueled the offense as Brayden Mann went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. AJ Trobenter contributed by going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and a run scored, while Cayden Boyes added a 1-for-2 performance with an RBI, two runs, and three walks.

On the mound, Frankie Trinetti delivered a strong complete-game performance, allowing five hits and one earned run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking five.

Game two featured a pitching masterpiece by Patrick Radigan, who tossed a one-hit, complete-game shutout with 13 strikeouts and just one walk over seven innings.

Offensively, Lake Catholic manufactured single runs in each of the first four innings. Mann and Trobenter stayed hot, going 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 respectively. Shea Sievers chipped in with a double, going 1-for-2, while Micah Nytrae went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

With the sweep, Lake Catholic improved to 12-0 overall (4-0 in conference). They next face Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on the road Monday.
