The event will bring together community leaders, including members of the Mentor City Council and administration, alongside county and state officials. Veterans' organizations and civic groups will also participate in paying tribute to fallen heroes.
The Mentor Municipal Cemetery, where the ceremony is held, is located at 6881 Hopkins Road.

š” PUCO Approves Summer Rate Hike for Ohio Electric Customers
Electricity rates for FirstEnergy customers across Ohio are set to rise starting June 1, following approval by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Households in Northeast Ohio will see increases of nearly 2 cents per kilowatt hour.
Customers of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company will now pay about 9.1 cents per kilowatt hour, while Ohio Edison customers will pay 9.4 cents. The new rates closely match FirstEnergyās original request to the commission, which hosted public hearings last month in Cleveland and Akron.
An independent audit supported a rate increase for Illuminating Company customers but recommended cuts for Ohio Edison and Toledo Edison users. However, all three groups will still see higher prices.
PUCO encourages consumers to understand their electric bills and explore provider options or assistance programs. Tools and information are available at puco.ohio.gov/utilityhelp.
š§· Diapers, Hope, and Support: Mentorās Birthright Lake Welcomes Community In
Birthright Lake, Inc., a Mentor-based nonprofit, will host an open house tonight, May 2 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at 7237 Industrial Parkway. Dedicated to supporting pregnant women and families with young children, the event offers tours, refreshments, and opportunities to learn about getting involved. Guests who donate newborn or swim diapers will be entered into a raffle.
Serving Lake County for over 50 years, Birthright Lake provides free, confidential support to families in need, including diapers, formula, clothing, and other essentials. As the countyās only diaper bank, it fills a crucial gap left by programs like SNAP and WIC, which donāt cover these items.
In early 2025, the organization helped 456 families, supported 775 infants and toddlers, and welcomed 39 newborns. A recent client survey revealed that families experience lower stress, happier children, and more financial flexibility thanks to the services provided.
Birthright Lake was honored with the Ohio Friends of WIC award in late 2023 for exceptional service. For more information or to make an appointment, visit www.birthrightlake.org or call 440-975-9055.
