🎭 Escape to Margaritaville Delivers Island Fun and Jimmy Buffett Classics

JIMMY BUFFET'S ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE: Sponsored by Marous Brothers Construction
The musical comedy Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville is set to deliver a lively mix of romance, humor, and iconic songs from the beloved singer-songwriter. Featuring hits like “Margaritaville,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Volcano,” and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” the show offers a feel-good escape packed with Buffett’s signature laid-back charm.
The story centers on a carefree singer and bartender living the island life who unexpectedly falls for a career-driven tourist. Their contrasting worlds collide in a fun, tropical tale about living in the moment and finding unexpected love.
With a book by Emmy winner Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl, Raising Hope) and Emmy nominee Mike O’Malley (Shameless, Survivor’s Remorse), the musical blends heartfelt moments with Buffett’s breezy, beach-infused soundtrack.
Rated PG-13, Escape to Margaritaville is a perfect getaway for fans of Buffett’s music and anyone looking for a lighthearted evening of sunshine, storytelling, and songs.

🚨 Thieves Ram Gas Station, Flee Empty-Handed in Pickup Truck

In the early hours of May 7, a dramatic attempted robbery unfolded at the Speedway gas station on Lake Shore Boulevard in Mentor. At approximately 3:53 a.m., police responded to reports of a robbery in progress involving multiple vehicles and suspects.
According to eyewitness accounts, a Dodge Grand Caravan and a dark-colored pickup truck arrived at the gas station. The minivan reversed into the storefront several times, causing significant structural damage. Four individuals emerged from the Caravan and tried to force an ATM machine into the bed of the waiting pickup.
Despite their efforts, the suspects failed to secure the machine. They fled the scene in the pickup truck as police arrived, abandoning the damaged Caravan. Officers initiated a pursuit, but the chase was called off for safety reasons.
Further investigation revealed that the minivan used in the crime had been reported stolen from a Cleveland resident earlier that night. Thankfully, an employee and a customer who were inside the store during the incident were unharmed. The Mentor Police Department's Detective Bureau is actively investigating the case. Authorities have yet to release additional details.

📰 Ohio Approves $2.5 Billion Infrastructure Plan With Issue 2
Ohio voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure to renew the Ohio Capital Improvement Program, securing $2.5 billion over the next decade for local infrastructure needs. The program funds essential projects like roads, bridges, and public facilities across the state.
Listed as State Issue 2, the measure allows for up to $250 million in general obligation bonds to be issued annually for ten years. It will be administered by the Ohio Public Works Commission and funded through existing state revenues, without raising taxes.
The program, originally established in 1987, has played a key role in supporting local development. This reauthorization is expected to generate roughly 35,000 construction jobs statewide.
The Strong Ohio Communities Coalition, made up of civic, business, and labor groups, backed the measure, which faced no significant opposition.
Although labeled Issue 2, this was the only statewide question on Tuesday’s ballot due to a revised numbering system. Future issues will follow in numerical order, with the next statewide measure set to appear as Issue 3.

Local families received much-needed support for their pets on April 28 during a food distribution hosted by Ohio Paws with Purpose at the Fairport Harbor Senior Center. There are additional distribution locations. To find out more visit their website or email them at [email protected]

⚾ Guardians Rally Past Nationals, Finish Grueling Stretch 14-8
The Cleveland Guardians wrapped up a demanding 22-game-in-23-day stretch with an 8-6 comeback win over the Nationals on Wednesday, taking the series in Washington and finishing the stretch with a strong 14-8 record.
Trailing 3-0 entering the sixth inning, Cleveland exploded for eight runs — its most in a single inning since September 2023. Thirteen batters came to the plate, producing six hits, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch. Carlos Santana delivered the key blow with a game-tying three-run double, helping erase the deficit. Cleveland capitalized on wild pitches and smart baserunning to seize control.
The outburst mirrored Tuesday's Game 1 performance, when the Guardians scored six in the seventh. The team has now posted five or more runs in an inning three times this season.
Emmanuel Clase notched his eighth save. In that span, Cleveland took five of seven series and went 13-4 in two-run games. The Guardians will enjoy Thursday off before starting a six-game homestand against Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
🥎 Cougars Struggle Offensively in Defeat to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin
The Lake Catholic Cougars girls softball team suffered a tough 14-0 loss to the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions in a non-conference game on Tuesday. NDCL's offense was dominant, scoring in every inning and totaling 14 runs on 13 hits.
The Cougars were held to just two hits, unable to generate momentum against the Lions' pitching duo of Alex Mould and Annaliese Racic, who combined for a shutout. Mould earned the win, while Lake Catholic’s Lizzie Bammerlin pitched the complete game and took the loss.
With the defeat, Lake Catholic falls to 3-8 on the season and remains winless in conference play at 0-6. The team looks to rebound on Friday, May 9, when they face the Madison Blue Streaks (10-4) at Mentor. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
🥎 Mentor Girls Remain Perfect in Conference, Prep for Riverside Rematch
The Mentor Cardinals girls softball team extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 3-1 victory over the Strongsville Mustangs in an interconference showdown on Wednesday. A dominant pitching performance and timely hitting secured the win.
Addison Belviso led the way in the circle, throwing a complete game. She allowed just one unearned run on four hits, walked two, and struck out ten to earn the win. Offensively, Mentor did all its scoring in the third inning. Sophia Smalley delivered the key blow with a three-run home run, finishing the game 1-for-3 with all three RBIs.
Kathryn Bouffard went 2-for-4, while several other Cardinals chipped in with hits to help seal the win. Mentor’s defense held firm, keeping the Mustangs from mounting a comeback.
With the win, Mentor improves to 17-7 overall and remains undefeated in the Greater Cleveland Conference. They’ll face a major test on Friday, May 9, when they host Painesville Riverside at 4:30 p.m. Riverside (18-2) handed Mentor its last loss on April 12 with a 6-3 win.
