đ° Rotary Donation Helps Mentor Police Upgrade Emergency Equipment
The Mentor Rotary Club has donated six new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the Mentor Police Department, replacing older models. AEDs provide life-saving treatment during cardiac emergencies and will now be in every on-duty police cruiser.
Along with the donation, the department negotiated the purchase of seven additional units and received a discount for trading in outdated devices. This ensures full citywide coverage during emergencies.
Captain Robert Valley and Sergeant Jeremy Calhoun, along with city officials, attended a Rotary meeting to express their gratitude. Calhoun, who oversees AED training, praised the new units for being compact, user-friendly, and modern. Officers, often first to arrive at emergencies, can now respond even faster.
City Manager Ken Filipiak commended the departmentâs training and preparedness. Rotary Club President Neil Sawicki said the donation reflects the groupâs mission of âService Above Selfâ and its dedication to supporting the community.
đ Minor Earthquake Shakes Madison Area, No Damage Reported
A minor earthquake was recorded in Northeast Ohio late Sunday night, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The magnitude 2.5 quake occurred at 10:47 p.m. southeast of Madison, Ohio, at a depth of approximately three miles.
The USGS received reports of weak to light shaking from nearby residents through its "Did You Feel It?" survey, but no damage or injuries were reported.
Small earthquakes like this one are not unusual for the region and are generally considered harmless.

đď¸ Are Home Warranties Worth It? What to Know Before You Buy

Home warranties can offer financial relief for homeowners facing unexpected repairs, but their value depends on your situation and the coverage details. These plans may help if your appliances or systems are aging and you canât afford large out-of-pocket expenses. However, limitations and delays often frustrate users.
Home warranties typically cover breakdowns from normal wear and tear. They can be helpful if youâre okay with companies choosing the repair technician and waiting daysâor even weeksâfor service. They're not ideal if your items are still under manufacturer warranty or you have a solid emergency fund.
Costs vary by provider, coverage, and location. In 2024, monthly premiums average $58, with service fees ranging from $70 to $125 per claim. Most companies enforce a 30-day waiting period before coverage begins, making warranties unsuitable for immediate needs. Payout caps and exclusionsâsuch as for poor maintenance or natural disastersâcan leave you footing part of the bill.
Before choosing a plan, read the fine print and research a companyâs customer service record. Not all plans cover major appliances without add-ons, and many limit how much theyâll pay toward a repair.
Instead of a warranty, consider saving the same amount in an emergency fund or adding endorsements to your homeowners insurance. These alternatives offer more flexibility and fewer restrictions, especially in regions prone to natural disasters.

âž RamĂrez Steals the Show as Cleveland Shuts Out Milwaukee
The Cleveland Guardians delivered a dominant performance on Monday night, shutting out the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 at Progressive Field. A key moment came in the fourth inning when Gabriel Arias drove in three runs with a deep fly ball to center field. Milwaukeeâs Jackson Chourio misjudged the play, allowing the ball to drop just beyond his reach and clearing the bases.
JosĂŠ RamĂrez added a spark to Clevelandâs offense with his aggressive baserunning. He stole second and third base ahead of Ariasâ clutch hit and swiped third again in the sixth inning. With three stolen bases on the night, RamĂrez moved into third place on the Guardiansâ all-time list with 255 career steals.
Clevelandâs pitching staff combined for a shutout, the teamâs fifth of the season. Starter Ben Lively exited after three innings due to right forearm inflammation. Relievers Jakob Junis, Kolby Allard, Cade Smith, and Hunter Gaddis handled the remaining frames, keeping Milwaukee off the board. Junis delivered a critical out with the bases loaded in the fourth, forcing a fielderâs choice to end the inning.
Kyle Manzardo and Carlos Santana each contributed an RBI for Cleveland to round out the scoring.
Despite striking out four and reaching a career milestone of 1,001 strikeouts, Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta took the loss, dropping to 4-3 on the season.
