š° Mentorās Luke Floriea Signs with Browns After Standout Rookie Minicamp
Mentor native and Kent State alumnus Luke Floriea has been signed by the Cleveland Browns after a strong performance at rookie minicamp. The wide receiver impressed coaches with his skills and versatility, joining two other receivers signed from tryouts, along with previously signed undrafted rookies.
In his 48-game college career, Floriea recorded 100 receptions for 1,321 yards and 12 touchdowns. His ability to contribute in multiple roles could prove valuable to a Browns receiving corps still taking shape.

š Cavs Crumble in Game 5 as Pacers Eliminate Cleveland From Playoffs
The Cleveland Cavaliersā promising season came to a disappointing end Tuesday night, as the Indiana Pacers closed out their Eastern Conference semifinal series with a 114-105 win in Game 5. Despite posting 60 wins and one of the NBAās best point differentials, the Cavs once again exited the playoffs early.
Cleveland joins a short list of dominant regular-season teams that failed to reach the conference finals, a collapse marked by untimely injuries, poor shooting, and missed opportunities. Darius Garland was sidelined, and both Evan Mobley and DeāAndre Hunter played through injuries that clearly limited their effectiveness.
Donovan Mitchell, battling calf and ankle issues, scored 35 points but shot just 8-of-25 and missed six free throws. He carried the load throughout the series, but in Game 5, he looked worn down with little help from teammates.
Mobleyās usage remained puzzling. After scoring 10 first-quarter points on Tuesday, he took just one second-quarter shot, despite finishing the game 8-for-12. Meanwhile, Ty Jerome, once a Sixth Man of the Year candidate, was benched early due to poor shooting, but returned to add eight points in the second half.
Game 5 began promisingly, with Cleveland leading 31-19 after the first quarter while both teams struggled from three-point range. But the Cavs couldnāt hold the lead, ultimately squandering a 19-point advantage as boos echoed through Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
This marks the third straight year the Cavs have underachieved in the postseason, leaving fans with more questions than answers after another regular-season success story fades in the playoffs.
ā¾ Allen Dominates as Guardians Blank Brewers Behind Stellar Rotation
Logan Allen delivered his strongest outing of the season Tuesday night, pitching six scoreless innings in the Guardians' 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Progressive Field. After giving up a leadoff single, Allen retired 13 straight batters and allowed only three hits and one walk, striking out six on just 89 pitches.
His performance extended a dominant run by Clevelandās rotation, which leads MLB with a 2.15 ERA over the past 14 games (since April 29). The Guardians have gone 10-4 during that stretch. Allenās outing was especially timely following the news that Ben Lively was placed on the injured list with a flexor tendon strain.
Focused on executing the game plan and staying aggressive, Allen worked smoothly with catcher Bo Naylor, letting the defense do its job. It was a significant bounce-back after a rough previous start against the Nationals.
The bullpen closed out the shutout, with Matt Festa, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase each working a clean inning. Clase earned his ninth save, reaching 102 mph with his cutter. After struggling in April due to shoulder discomfort and a 7.84 ERA, Clase has rebounded with a 1.13 ERA and five saves over his last eight outings.
With their rotation and bullpen clicking, the Guardians continue to ride elite pitching as the foundation of their recent success.

ā¾ Mentor Cardinals Edge Kirtland 9-7 Behind Explosive Sixth Inning
The Mentor Cardinals held off a late push from the Kirtland Hornets to earn a 9-7 victory in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.
Mentor jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Kirtland responded with a four-run rally in the top of the fourth to briefly take control, but the Cardinals came roaring back with a six-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth. Kirtland added three in the seventh, but it wasnāt enough to overcome the deficit.
The Cardinals totaled seven hits on the day, powered by another strong showing from Jake McCartney, who launched a home run and drove in three runs on a 2-for-4 performance. Austin Vanhuss also went 2-for-4, scoring twice, walking twice, and stealing three bases. Josh Wieland contributed with a triple as part of a 2-for-3 effort, adding a stolen base and two runs scored.
On the mound, Peter Kennedy set the tone with 3.2 innings of shutout work, allowing no earned runs. Jacob Gunvelson, Johnny Prentice, and Adam Adkins also appeared in relief, with Prentice earning the win.
With the victory, Mentor improves to 16-4 on the season. The Cardinals return to action at home on Friday with a 5 p.m. game against St. Ignatius.
