📰 13,000 bicycle helmets to be distributed to children in Ohio
The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) and the Ohio Department of Transportation have partnered to promote bike safety through the Put a Lid on It! Helmet Safety Awareness program. As part of this statewide effort, 13,000 free bicycle helmets will be distributed to students across Ohio.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of wearing helmets to prevent head injuries and protect young cyclists. By providing free helmets, the program helps remove financial barriers and encourages safer riding habits among children and families. Ohio’s helmet safety program is distributing helmets to high-need areas through law enforcement, schools, and community groups. In Lake County, organizations like the Lake County General Health District, law enforcement agencies, and community groups receive these helmets for distribution. Experts say 75% of bike-related deaths could be prevented with helmet use.

👨👩👧👦 Lake County Recognizes May as Foster Parent Recognition Month
Lake County Honors Foster Parents During National Foster Care Month
In recognition of National Foster Care Month, the Lake County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed May as Foster Parent Recognition Month, honoring local families who care for children in need of safe, supportive homes.
Currently, 38 licensed foster families care for children of all ages in Lake County, supported by the Department of Job and Family Services (JFS). The department also works with relatives and a network of caregivers who step in during times of crisis.
JFS Director Suzanne Casar emphasized the critical role foster parents play in providing stability, noting their dedication during challenging circumstances. Commissioners praised foster families as essential to the child welfare system and encouraged the public to recognize their contributions.
As part of this effort, the county hosts an annual appreciation dinner for foster families. Residents interested in becoming foster parents are encouraged to call the Lake County Foster Care and Adoption Hotline at 440-350-4218.

⚾ Guardians-Twins Suspended by Weather; Game to Resume Tuesday
The Cleveland Guardians’ matchup against the Minnesota Twins was suspended Monday night in the fourth inning due to persistent rain, with the Twins holding a 2-1 lead at the time of interruption.
After an initial lightning delay that lasted about an hour, play resumed and continued through a scoreless third inning. However, a second wave of rain forced officials to call for a suspension during the fourth. The game will pick up where it left off Tuesday evening, followed by the regularly scheduled game, which will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the resumed contest.
The Guardians opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double by Kyle Manzardo. The Twins responded in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Jeffers crossed home on a Ty France single. In the second inning, Harrison Bader raced from first to score on a double from Willi Castro, giving Minnesota the edge before weather began to interfere.
