š§Ŗ Check Water Quality Before You Swim: Daily Updates for Lake County Beaches

City of Mentor
Before heading out for a day at the beach, visitors are encouraged to check the latest water quality updates to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience along Lake Erieās shoreline.
The Lake County General Health District closely monitors bacteria levels at Headlands Beach State Park and Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park each day throughout the summer season, beginning on Memorial Day and continuing through Labor Day. Daily results are made publicly available online to help beachgoers make informed decisions about swimming conditions.
On-site signage at both beaches provides an at-a-glance indication of current water quality. Green typically means safe to swim, while red indicates elevated bacteria levels and potential health risks. Visitors should always look for these posted alerts before entering the water.
In addition to checking daily updates, health officials advise avoiding lake swimming for 24 to 48 hours following heavy rainfallādefined as more than half an inch of rain in a 24-hour periodāas stormwater runoff often leads to a spike in bacteria levels. After any swim, itās also recommended to shower as soon as possible to rinse off any contaminants.
For the most current information, beachgoers can visit the Lake County General Health Districtās dedicated beach water quality page at www.lcghd.org/beaches. A few quick clicks can help ensure a safer, healthier visit to the water this summer.

š„ Mentorās Season Ends in 13-11 Heartbreaker Against Lincoln
The Mentor girls varsity softball teamās impressive regular season came to a sudden halt on Wednesday as they were edged out by the Lincoln Lions in a narrow 13-11 loss. After piling up 10 runs in their previous game, the Cardinals topped that output with 11 runs this timeābut it wasnāt enough to continue their postseason journey.
The game marked the end of a dominant 16-game winning streak for Mentor, bringing their final season record to 22-8. Despite the defeat, several players delivered standout performances at the plate. Maddie Menough was a powerhouse, going 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs, and two runs scored. Ireland Rainey also had a strong outing, reaching base three times in four plate appearances and crossing the plate three times.
Contributions came from across the lineup. Kathryn Bouffard and Maggie Haydu both recorded 2-for-5 efforts, each with a double and an RBI, while Sophia Smalley chipped in with a hit and an RBI as well.
Lincoln, who now sits at 19-11, put on an aggressive offensive display, stealing 11 bases during the game. Though the Lions committed six errors compared to Mentorās three, their offensive pressure and timely hitting proved to be the difference.
With no further games on their schedule, Mentorās season concludes. Lincoln, however, advances to face Lancaster on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The Golden Gales will enter with a 16-game win streak of their own, setting the stage for a competitive showdown.
