🚨 Ohio State Highway Patrol Deploys Statewide Real-Time Aerial Video System

Ohio Highway Patrol

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has introduced a new statewide aerial video system that streams real-time footage from helicopters and planes directly to law enforcement officers on the ground. Supported by $5.7 million in state and federal funding, the system offers a significant boost in situational awareness for operations such as traffic stops, chases, and missing person searches.

High-definition cameras mounted on aircraft capture detailed images from up to 1,100 feet in the air. These video feeds are transmitted through nine downlink receivers placed across Ohio, allowing authorized law enforcement to securely view the footage on mobile devices or computers in real time.

Previously, air crews relayed information by radio, limiting the clarity and speed of communication. With live video now available, officers on the ground gain a much clearer picture of unfolding events.

Originally launched in 2019 as a pilot in the Columbus and Akron-Canton areas, the program expanded statewide in 2025. Ohio is now one of only two states with such a broad deployment. The funding covered aircraft equipment and ground receivers, with no usage fees for local agencies.

The aviation unit assists with over 1,100 missions annually, from tracking suspects and storm damage assessments to crowd monitoring. In pursuits, aircraft can follow fleeing suspects from above while patrol cars back off, reducing risk while maintaining visual contact.

The system also plays a key role in search-and-rescue missions, helping locate missing persons quickly and safely. Ohio’s investment in this technology modernizes its public safety capabilities, giving agencies statewide access to vital, real-time intelligence from the air.

📰 Goodyear Blimps Take Flight Over Akron to Celebrate 100 Years

Akron skies will be buzzing with history this week as Goodyear celebrates the 100th anniversary of its iconic blimp. In a rare display, three of the company's four airships—Wingfoot One, Wingfoot Two, and Wingfoot Three—will take flight over the city on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for a commemorative "Victory Lap."

The weeklong tribute pays homage to the blimp’s enduring legacy in Akron, where Goodyear first launched its aerial advertising and aviation program a century ago. The celebratory flights begin Tuesday with flyovers at Wingfoot Lake State Park and Lock 3, coinciding with Mayor Shammas Malik’s State of the City Address.

Later in the day, the trio will take center stage above Canal Park as they perform the official flyover before the 5:30 p.m. Akron RubberDucks baseball game. As part of the festivities, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative T-shirt honoring the blimp’s centennial milestone.

Goodyear's tribute turns the skies into a moving reminder of one of Akron's most recognizable symbols—and a century of innovation in the air.

From Carriages to Council Halls: A Glimpse of Mentor in 1857

Back in 1857, the Buffalo Road—now known as US-20—served as the primary thoroughfare between Cleveland and Buffalo. Traveling this route by horse-drawn carriage could take nearly a week, with weary travelers often stopping in Mentor to rest. Two popular spots were D.G. Branch’s establishment on the northeast corner of Center Street, which doubled as a hotel, tavern, store, and post office, and Schram’s hotel across the way on the northwest corner of Jackson Street.

Nearby stood the Disciples of Christ church, a spiritual anchor for the town and occasional pulpit for then-Congressman James A. Garfield in the late 1870s. The building was later moved across the street and now survives as Mentor’s Old Council Hall.

At the time, the cemetery at the northwest corner of Buffalo Road and Center Street had recently been cleared, with remains relocated to the new Mentor Cemetery on Hopkins Road to make way for a school. One historical home—the Corning House—still stands just west of the intersection, a rare survivor from that era.

In 1870, the village of Mentor had a modest population of 416. Today, it's grown into a thriving community of around 47,000 residents. The snapshot of this historic crossroad was taken from an 1857 map of Geauga and Lake counties by cartographer Robert Pearsall Smith, capturing a pivotal moment in the region’s early development.

💪 Experts Reveal the Real Perks of Lifting Light—and It’s Easier Than You Think

Lifting weights doesn’t have to mean heavy loads or hours in the gym. Light weightlifting is a simple, effective way to build strength, maintain lean muscle, and boost overall health—no bulky equipment required.

Unlike heavy lifting, which builds muscle mass, light weights focus on endurance and functional strength, helping with everyday tasks like carrying groceries or doing yard work through higher reps with lighter loads.

What Counts as “Light”?
"Light" varies by individual, but generally means a weight you can lift for 12 to 15 reps before fatigue. For many, that’s between five to eight pounds—though starting lighter is fine. All you need is a pair of dumbbells, and you can train anywhere, indoors or outside.

Form matters more than weight. With good technique and consistency—several sessions a week—you’ll likely notice strength gains within weeks. Always begin with a warm-up, especially as you get older.

6 Key Benefits of Lifting Light Weights

1. Reduces Body Fat
As metabolism naturally slows with age, it becomes easier to gain fat around the waist and hips. When paired with cardiovascular exercise and healthy eating, light lifting helps build lean muscle and create a more toned appearance.

2. Maintains Muscle Mass
Muscle mass begins to decline in your 30s, dropping 3 to 8 percent per decade—and faster after 60. Light lifting slows this process, helping you stay stronger for longer.

3. Supports Bone Health
Especially important for perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, resistance training encourages bone formation and helps combat the loss of bone density—something cardio alone can’t do.

4. Boosts Mood and Reduces Stress
Exercise triggers the release of endorphins and serotonin, improving mood and lowering stress hormones. Even short sessions can leave you feeling stronger, more accomplished, and mentally refreshed.

5. Improves Balance and Core Strength
Training with light weights builds core muscles that support posture and help prevent falls, especially important as the body ages and becomes more prone to instability.

6. Increases Confidence and Consistency
With visible progress, reduced risk of injury, and approachable routines, lifting light can create a long-lasting habit that supports both physical and mental well-being.

Who Should Try Light Weightlifting?

Beginners or anyone returning after a break should start with light weights to focus on proper form and build muscle-mind connection. Trainers recommend prioritizing technique over the amount of weight lifted.

Who Should Be Cautious?

Anyone with existing medical conditions or health concerns should consult a doctor before starting any new exercise program. Meanwhile, individuals aiming to increase power or build large muscle mass may want to transition to heavier lifting once their base strength and form are established.

⚾ Chisholm Homers in Return as Yankees Edge Guardians 3–2

Jazz Chisholm Jr. made a powerful return from a month-long injury absence, hitting a go-ahead home run to lift the New York Yankees to a 3–2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night. The victory marked the Yankees’ 11th in their last 14 games.

Chisholm, back after missing 28 games with a strained right oblique, launched a fastball into the right-center seats in the seventh inning off Tanner Bibee to break a 1–1 tie. Just six pitches later, Anthony Volpe followed with a homer to left, giving the Yankees their fifth set of back-to-back home runs this season.

Starting pitcher Carlos Rodón continued his strong form, earning his seventh consecutive decision and improving to 8–3. He allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. He extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings and retired 17 consecutive batters before Cleveland's José Ramírez broke through in the seventh. Rodón stranded two runners to maintain the lead.

Devin Williams, back in the closer role due to Luke Weaver’s hamstring injury, allowed a run in the ninth but held on for his sixth save in seven opportunities.

Chisholm also made his presence felt defensively, starting at third base and making a difficult throw to retire Angel Martínez in the third inning. He had earlier notched the Yankees’ first hit with a bloop single and scored on DJ LeMahieu’s RBI single in the fifth.

Bibee (4–6) took the loss, despite a season-high 107 pitches over 6 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits, including the pair of seventh-inning homers. The right-hander has now given up 14 home runs this season, with 11 coming on the road.

David Fry, who returned to the Guardians’ lineup after offseason elbow surgery, contributed an RBI single in the ninth.
