Couple’s Cross-Country Texas Roadhouse Tour Stops in Willoughby for Visit No. 514

Judy and Mike McNamara’s journey to visit every Texas Roadhouse in America brings them to Willoughby on June 19 for their 514th stop. The couple will visit the Commerce Circle location near I-90 at 3 p.m.

Their mission began after Judy retired in 2017, and since then, they’ve visited 49 states and more than 500 Texas Roadhouse restaurants. Their love for the chain dates back to 2003, when they first dined at a location in Tennessee.

Beyond the food—which includes favorites like sirloin, pulled pork, and Chicken Critters—the couple values the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Memorable moments include a manager giving Mike a shirt in New Jersey and a server recognizing them a year later in West Virginia.

The McNamaras plan their road trips around parks, museums, and restaurant visits. They’ve been traveling as Texas Roadhouse recently became the largest casual-dining chain in the U.S., surpassing Olive Garden with 664 locations.

You can follow their journey and photos from each stop on their Facebook page.

Mentor Uber Driver Hailed a Hero After Spotting Garage Fire, Saving Elderly Woman

On the night of Wednesday, February 19, 2025, what began as a routine Uber shift turned into a life-saving moment for Matthew Certain of Mentor. At 10:24 p.m., just after dropping off a passenger, he noticed an unusual glow through the garage window of a home on Dartmoor Road—and quickly realized something was wrong.

Drawing on his past experience working in a foundry, Certain recognized the glow as the sign of a fire. He pulled over to investigate and saw flames inside the garage at 8210 Dartmoor Road. Without hesitation, he called 911 and then went further—approaching the house to warn anyone who might be inside.

Inside was an elderly woman, asleep and unaware of the danger. Thanks to Certain’s quick thinking and courageous action, she was safely guided out of the home before emergency crews arrived.

The Mentor Fire and Police Departments, along with the City of Mentor, have formally commended Certain for his actions that night. Officials praised him for going beyond the call of duty—not just reporting the fire, but personally ensuring the resident’s safety.

What could have been a devastating tragedy was avoided, and the city credits Certain’s vigilance and bravery. While he humbly referred to it as fate that he accepted that Uber ride, the community sees it as a heroic act that made all the difference.

⚾ Lake Catholic Stuns Unioto with Sixth-Inning Comeback to Reach State Final

Lake Catholic boys baseball team secured a spot in the OHSAA Division IV baseball state championship with a resilient 5-3 comeback win over Chillicothe Unioto on Friday in Canton. The Cougars used a four-run sixth inning and a dominant pitching performance to punch their ticket to Sunday’s final.

Trailing entering the sixth, Lake Catholic (25-4) erupted for four runs, highlighted by A.J. Trobenter’s two-run single down the right-field line that brought in the tying and go-ahead runs. Another run added late provided extra cushion, though senior pitcher Patrick Radigan hardly needed it.

Radigan delivered a masterful complete game, striking out 12 batters — including the final two — and allowing just two hits. Only one of Unioto’s three runs was earned, as the Cougars played solid defense behind him.

Offensively, Lake Catholic collected 10 hits to back their ace. The team now turns its focus to Sandusky Perkins (22-9), which advanced with a 4-3 win over Cincinnati Indian Hill later Friday. The championship game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at Akron’s Canal Park.

Radigan finished the game with a bloody nose — the result of a celebratory pile-on by his teammates after his final strikeout sealed the win.

Summary:

Lake Catholic used a four-run sixth inning and a dominant outing from pitcher Patrick Radigan to beat Unioto 5-3 and reach the OHSAA Division IV state title game. The Cougars face Sandusky Perkins in Sunday’s championship at Akron’s Canal Park.

⚾ Guardians Drop Opener to Mariners After Late-Game Collapse

The Cleveland Guardians fell 7-2 to the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, unable to hold an early lead after a disastrous seventh inning at T-Mobile Park.

Cleveland jumped ahead with solo home runs from Nolan Jones and Steven Kwan in the third. Triston McKenzie kept Seattle in check through five innings, allowing just one run, but the bullpen unraveled in the seventh.

Reliever Tim Herrin gave up four runs, including a two-run single by Dominic Canzone. Seattle took the lead and didn’t look back, adding a run with a Cole Young double and capping the night with a Jorge Polanco homer in the eighth.

Cleveland’s offense stalled after the third, managing just four hits total. JosĆ© RamĆrez extended his on-base streak to 38 games, the longest in the American League this season.

A tense moment occurred in the fifth when reliever Cade Smith was hit in the forehead by a line drive. He remained in the game and recorded a scoreless inning.

The Guardians will try to even the series Saturday with Tanner Bibee facing Seattle’s George Kirby.
