šŸ“° Mentor Man's Final Journey: Ashes to Orbit in Emotional Space Tribute

This weekend, a Northeast Ohio man with a passion for astronomy will be honored in a cosmic tribute — his ashes sent into orbit.

Curtis ā€œCurtā€ Carson Lau, a retired pharmacist from Mentor, passed away in July 2024 at age 70. A longtime member of the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society, he loved stargazing and often visited Kennedy Space Center to witness rocket launches.

After his passing, his sons, Griffin and Carson, remembered their dad’s wish to have his ashes launched into space — a plan they quickly moved to fulfill.

They partnered with Celestis, Inc., a memorial spaceflight company that sends cremains into orbit. This weekend’s launch, from Vandenberg Space Force Base via a SpaceX SmallSat Rideshare mission, will carry Curt’s ashes around Earth at 17,000 mph. After several years in orbit, the capsule will reenter the atmosphere, creating a shooting star-like effect as it burns up.

Later, the capsule will be retrieved off the Alaskan coast and returned to the family — a symbolic way for the three to share one last launch together.

ā€œIt’s a final gift,ā€ said Carson. ā€œA meaningful goodbye for someone who always dreamed of space.ā€

😼 Your Pet Could Be a Star: Submit Now for Lake Humane’s 2026 Calendar

Photo by Andrew S on Unsplash

The Lake Humane Society has launched its 2026 Pet Calendar campaign, inviting Lake County pet owners to feature their furry (or feathered) friends while supporting animal rescue efforts.

Each photo entry will appear in the calendar, with 12 pets selected as monthly features. Proceeds will fund the shelter’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals, and provide for wellness equipment, shelter supplies, and outreach efforts.

Local businesses — including Mission Empawthy, The Junkluggers, and Harley-Davidson — have joined as sponsors and photo contest judges. The campaign welcomes all kinds of pets; even a chinchilla entry has made the cut.

An initial run of 250 calendars will be printed and shipped directly to supporters. Organizers hope to grow the campaign in future years while increasing visibility for adoptable pets and community engagement.

šŸ’» Digital Nomad Essentials: 10 Must-Have Tech Tools for Life on the Move

The freedom to work from anywhere has evolved from a distant dream into a daily reality for thousands of digital nomads. Whether coding in a Bali co-working hub, writing from a Lisbon beach cafƩ, or hosting Zoom calls from a camper van in Patagonia, the lifestyle blends adventure with constant demands.

Behind the idyllic social media posts lies a need for dependable tech. When your office fits in a backpack, every item must earn its place. Staying productive on the go means more than just a laptop and Wi-Fi—it requires readiness for spotty connections, limited power, and constant distractions.

This guide highlights the top 10 tech essentials every digital nomad should carry to stay efficient on the road. From smart power options to compact tools, these items go beyond convenience—they’re game changers.

🧳 5 of the 10 Must-Have Tech Essentials for Digital Nomads. Read About the Other 5 in the Link Below.

1. Lightweight Laptop with Long Battery Life
Your laptop is your lifeline. Look for a slim, durable model with at least 10 hours of battery life. Popular choices include the MacBook Air, Dell XPS 13, and Chromebooks. Battery life and speed take priority over flash.

2. Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot
Public Wi-Fi can’t always be trusted. A mobile hotspot with global coverage ensures you stay connected anywhere, from mountain towns to airport terminals. Bonus if it supports eSIM or local SIM cards.

3. Universal Travel Adapter with USB Ports
One adapter for every country simplifies travel and saves space. Look for models with surge protection and multiple USB ports to charge all your devices at once.

4. High-Capacity Power Bank
A 20,000 mAh (or higher) power bank that’s airline-compliant will keep your phone, tablet, and even laptop powered up during long travel days. A must-have for remote workers on the move.

5. Noise-Canceling Headphones
Whether you're in a bustling hostel or a noisy cafƩ, noise-canceling headphones are essential for focus and clear virtual meetings.

šŸŒ Pack Smart, Travel Far

For digital nomads, the world becomes your workspace—but only if you pack with purpose. Every tool in your mobile office should help you stay productive, secure, and connected, no matter where you touch down next.

The journey is only as smooth as your setup. Choose gear that works as hard as you do.

⚾ Ortiz Dominates as Guardians Edge Athletics 4-2

Luis Ortiz led the Cleveland Guardians to a 4-2 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night with six dominant, scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out 10 and allowed only two hits, bouncing back after two rough outings.

Cleveland's offense came alive in the second inning with four quick runs. Bo Naylor and Johnathan RodrĆguez hit back-to-back RBI doubles, while Steven Kwan and JosĆ© RamĆrez each added run-scoring singles. RamĆrez’s hit marked his 900th career RBI.

Oakland responded late, scoring once in the seventh on an Austin Wynns double, and again in the eighth when Brent Rooker tripled and came home on a sacrifice fly. But Cleveland’s bullpen held on, with Emmanuel Clase closing the ninth for his 17th save.

Athletics starter Mitch Spence allowed four runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings. Despite outscoring Cleveland on the season, Oakland’s pitching struggles continued—now having allowed 150 more runs than the Guardians.

The win improved Cleveland’s record to 38-37, while Oakland fell to 32-47 and 15-26 at their temporary home, Sutter Health Park.

⚾ Captains Sink Cubs with Power Surge and Strong Pitching in 10-5 Victory

The Lake County Captains secured a 10-5 win over the South Bend Cubs on Saturday night, powered by a strong offensive showing and a standout start from pitcher Matt Wilkinson.

Wilkinson, entering the game with just one win, delivered his best outing of the season—allowing one hit and one run over five innings with eight strikeouts. The only blemish was a solo homer in the first that briefly tied the game at 1-1.

Lake County quickly regained the lead in the second with back-to-back solo home runs from Jonah Advincula and Juan Benjamin. The offense kept rolling, including a key insurance run in the eighth on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

The Captains broke it open in the ninth with six more runs, capped by a Jose Devers double that scored Ralphy Velazquez and nearly cleared the bases. South Bend added a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but the rally fell short.
